Unit Helpers
Summary
Assists nursing staff by maintaining clean resident rooms, serving meals, tracking intake/output, and transporting patients in a healthcare facility.
The Unit Helper works under the direction of the unit manager or charge nurse. Shifts are 7am - 1 pm and 3pm - 7pm daily. This position involves performing the duties such as
- Makes unoccupied beds
- Turns down and gets pads for unoccupied beds
- Straightens out resident rooms to meet environmental standards.
- Passes fresh water in carafes.
- Pours ice water prior to meals.
- Transports residents to Activities, Dining Room, Podiatrist, Dentist, etc.
- Passes and prepares meal trays
- Records Intake & Output (I&O) and percent of meal consumed
- Answers call bells as directed
- Provides a safe, pleasant and clean environment for the residents at mealtime
- Cleans and washes wheelchairs as directed
