Unit Secretary for Hospital Setting
- Answer the phone-priority
- Monitor and answer the door alarm-priority
- Registration of patients:
- Register patients in the EHR
- Ensure consent is filled out as soon as possible
- Place arm band on patient
- Assist patients with filling out demographic information
- Obtain current driver’s license and all insurance information-after patient is determined not to have a medical emergency.
- Sticker all charts appropriately
- Full Registrations: Follow Full Registration Process.
- Keep Nurses in the loop with their patients.
- Keep the Charge Nurse updated on all operations of the day.
- Page out trauma team activations, Stroke Alerts, and all hands on deck per Charge Nurse determination.
- Update ED, Inpatient, and Transfer logs
- Coordinate with Nursing regarding calling Lab, X-ray
- Document call times on the audit sheet.
- Obtain medical records from other facilities when requested by nursing or provider
- Transfers to other facilities:
- Call for bed availability
- Find mode of transport per Provider Order i.e. Critical Care Transport, ALS, BLS etc.
- Page out for transfer
- Begin Transfer Packet
- Make follow up appointments for ED, Inpatient, OBS, and Swing bed patients
- Process finished ED chart as dictated
Daily Duties:
- Print out “Nursing Brain” at 17:30 and 05:30
- Update and print call sheet
- Scan and upload Swing Bed Referrals, and notify Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)
- Ensure there is enough:
- ED packets (20)
- Inpatient packets (20)
- Transfer packets (20)
- SWG Bed packets (15)
- Must not have been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude
- Current BLS certification or obtain within one months of hire
- Ability to meet all health, compliance and competency requirements
- The ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Other as required for specific assignments or for employment
