Unreal 5 Technical Artist
You will bridge art and engineering by building scalable asset pipelines, tools, and automation. You will optimize materials, shaders, visual effects, and assets in Unreal Engine 5; profile performance issues; maintain PBR and procedural workflows; support artists; validate third-party assets; and document technical practices.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain art pipelines and asset workflows.
- Develop and maintain tools, scripts, and automation solutions.
- Define, document, and enforce art standards and best practices.
- Implement and optimize materials, shaders, and visual effects in Unreal Engine 5.
- Manage and optimize asset integration, including polygon budgets, texture resolution, LODs, and draw calls.
- Profile and debug performance issues using Unreal Insights and profiling tools.
- Maintain material libraries, shader networks, and PBR workflows.
- Support procedural content workflows using PCG, Houdini, or equivalent tools.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and hands-on support to the art team.
- Partner with engineers to align asset practices, performance metrics, and technical requirements.
- Review outsourced and third-party assets for technical compliance.
- Contribute to technical documentation and shared knowledge.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of game development experience focused on technical art.
- Experience with performance profiling and optimization using Unreal Insights, GPU Visualizer, or similar tools.
- Understanding of physically based rendering, real-time rendering limitations, and cross-platform optimization.
- At least one shipped Unreal Engine game as a Technical Artist.
- Proficiency in Unreal Engine 5, Material Editor, Blueprint scripting, asset pipelines, and performance optimization tools.
- Familiarity with Houdini or Unreal PCG.
- Experience developing scripts or tools with Python, MEL, or a comparable language.
- Experience with Perforce, Git, or SVN.
- Portfolio or demo reel showing shipped work and technical contributions.
- Professional written and verbal English proficiency.
- Located in or near Berlin, Germany.
