US Sales Tax Associate

Sagent Management is a growing and dynamic accounting and tax firm headquartered in the Silicon Valley that offers accounting, tax, and management consulting services to publicly-traded companies, privately-held businesses, and high-net-worth individuals.

Position Description
The Sales Tax Associate is primarily responsible for preparing U.S. Sales Tax and Use Tax returns. We are looking for a talented individual who wants to be an important part of our dynamic team.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the preparation of the Sales and Use Tax returns and compliance in accordance with state and local laws, assisting with completing all tax related accounting, completing new and existing business licensing and working on state compliance audits.
• Assist in various specific tax projects as assigned which may involve research and compliance in sales tax, business licenses and general ledger accounting, etc.
• Research various tax issues, including analysis of new tax laws, proposed legislation, and tax rate changes
• Maintain state sales & use tax filings calendar according to states filing and frequency requirements
• Review purchase invoices to determine taxability and review use tax accruals for accuracy
• Review customers’ sales tax exemption certificate, based on the state requirements, and update systems

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills and written skills and ability to work under tight deadlines and in a fast-paced environment
• Understanding of accounting principles
• Detailed knowledge of Excel and Word and the ability to build moderately complex spreadsheets
• Strong communication skills, time management and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently
• Very Good attention to detail
