UX Designer II, Conversational, Amazon Quick
Amazon Quick is an AI-powered work companion that helps people manage their digital workload across multiple surfaces. Conversation is one of the primary ways users interact with the system, and every exchange is a moment where the user decides whether to trust the system with more of their workload, or pull back. This role partners on the design of that conversational experience layer.
You will define how the system communicates what it knows, what it doesn't know, how it handles mistakes, and how it earns the right to do more over time. You will design interaction patterns for response formatting, source transparency, error recovery, progressive disclosure of capability, and feedback mechanisms that let users correct and steer the system.
You will work at the intersection of interaction design, content strategy, and behavioral design, partnering closely with engineering on technically complex conversational surfaces. You will need to be comfortable with ambiguity, rapid prototyping, and designing for an experience that evolves as the underlying AI capabilities mature.
The right candidate has shipped conversational product work and can articulate design rationale for invisible interactions (timing, progressive reveal, tone calibration) as fluently as visible ones (layout, hierarchy, motion).
Key job responsibilities
- Design end-to-end conversational interaction patterns across input, response, feedback, and error states
- Partner with science and research to define how the system expresses confidence, uncertainty, and limitations to users
- Contribute to frameworks for how trust is built, maintained, and repaired through conversational interactions
- Prototype and iterate on interaction patterns for complex response types (structured data, multi-step workflows, mixed-media responses)
- Contribute to the conversational design system, establishing reusable patterns and guidelines
- Partner with content design on voice, tone, and language strategy for system responses
- Collaborate across the design team on how conversation connects to other product surfaces
About the team
Amazon Quick is building an AI-powered work companion for knowledge workers. The team sits within AI & Intelligence and operates with high velocity and short iteration cycles. The design team is small, collaborative, and opinionated. You will have real influence on product direction and work directly with engineering, science, and product leadership.
