Position Summary: The UI/UX Designer is responsible for researching, analyzing, designing, and improving user experience across GLS digital products. This role works closely with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Developers, and stakeholders to translate business requirements and user needs into intuitive, accessible, and visually engaging user experiences. The UI/UX Designer conducts user research, creates wireframes and prototypes, validates designs through usability testing, and ensures consistency with the organization's design standards.


Reporting to the VP of IT Services and partnering closely with the Product Manager, this position plays a key role in defining the GLS US digital products while ensuring consistency, usability, and accessibility across the organization. This individual operates within a leadership structure that extends from the VP of IT Services to the CTO of North America, ensuring alignment with the enterprise technology strategy.


Key Responsibilities:


User Experience Research

· Conduct user research through interviews, surveys, usability testing, and stakeholder workshops.

· Analyze user behavior, customer feedback, analytics, and support requests to identify usability issues and opportunities for improvement.

· Create user personas, journey maps, empathy maps, and user flows.

· Recommend UX improvements based on research findings and industry best practices.


User Interface Design

· Design wireframes, mockups, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs for web and mobile applications.

· Create intuitive, user-centered interfaces that align with business objectives.

· Ensure designs follow accessibility (WCAG), usability, and responsive design principles.

· Maintain visual consistency with GLS branding and design standards.


Design System & Component Library

· Develop, maintain, and evolve the GLS US Design System.

· Create reusable UI components, templates, interaction patterns, and design guidelines that promote consistency across all digital products.

· Partner with Engineering to ensure design components are implemented accurately and remain synchronized with development.

· Establish standards for typography, spacing, color palettes, iconography, accessibility, and interaction behaviors.


Cross-Functional Collaboration

· Collaborate closely with Product Managers to understand business goals, prioritize features, and define user experience requirements.

· Collaborate with Customer Service, Sales, and Operations to understand user needs and translate them into actionable design and development requirements.

· Partner with Engineering throughout implementation to ensure design fidelity and technical feasibility.

· Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and design reviews.

· Facilitate design workshops and brainstorming sessions with cross-functional teams.

Continuous Improvement

· Continuously evaluate existing products and identify opportunities to improve user experience.

· Use customer feedback, analytics, heatmaps, and usability metrics to drive product enhancements.

· Advocate for customer-centric design across the organization.

· Introduce modern UX methodologies, emerging technologies, and industry best practices to improve design maturity.

· Contribute to the evolution of GLS US digital experience standards and long-term UX strategy for customer-facing digital platforms, including shipper portals, tracking experiences, and self-service tools.
