Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications:
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking dependable and compassionate individuals to join our Transportation Division as Part-Time BH/DS Van Drivers. Positions may be benefit-eligible or non-benefit eligible, depending on hours worked.
In this role, you will safely transport individuals receiving behavioral health and developmental services to and from daily activities, employment, and community programs.
Duties:
Safely transport clients in a passenger van to scheduled destinations
Assist clients with boarding, unloading, and mobility needs, including wheelchair security
Ensure all passengers are safely seated with seatbelts fastened, providing assistance as needed, including but not limited to on-boarding and off-boarding the vehicle
Respond appropriately to behavioral or medical situations and complete incident reports as needed
Conduct thorough pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections
Accurately complete mileage logs and required reports daily
Report on vehicle maintenance needs and ensure timely service
Maintain cleanliness and routine upkeep and fueling of assigned vehicle
Provide courteous, respectful service to clients, families, and staff
Support training and mentoring of new drivers as needed
Provide prompt and courteous services to all customers of Transportation Services (i.e. clients, Family Members, Contractual Agency, and Departmental program staff).
Schedule: Monday - Friday: 7:00AM - 10:00AM and/or 2:30PM - 5:30PM

Minimum Requirements:
:MINIMUMS: Requires a High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience working with or transporting the behavioral health, developmentally-disabled or substance use population, or working in a helping profession; experience operating a 15-passenger van or comparable vehicle; and a good driving record; OR any combination of education (above high school level) and/or experience equivalent to one (1) year of experience utilizing the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to work rotating shifts (early mornings/evenings) including weekends and holidays and be available to work overtime when required to meet operational needs. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to mandatory drug testing. Positive drug test results may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including, termination. Alpha I Status: Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the Citys operational status. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical. TB Test required.
