Vessel Operator ( Dry Bulk)
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage and ensure voyages are performed in compliance with Charter Parties, Company procedures and commercial objectives, while maximizing voyage profitability.
• Monitor vessel movements and coordinate all operational activities including voyage execution, bunker planning, agency nomination, cargo operations, and required documentation.
• Maintain and update voyage schedules, operational records, and voyage instructions in the Company's Voyage Management System (Dataloy VMS).
• Maintain close communication with charterers, ship masters, brokers, agents, surveyors, cargo interests, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth voyage execution.
• Liaise with weather routing providers to optimize voyage efficiency, identify operational risks, and proactively address performance deviations or potential claims exposure.
• Review and apply Charter Party clauses relating to laytime, demurrage, notices, bunkers, cargo operations, and contractual obligations.
• Verify and monitor operational documentation including Notices of Readiness, Statements of Facts, Bills of Lading, Mate's Receipts, and other voyage-related documents.
• Monitor voyage performance and profitability, identify operational or commercial risks, and proactively recommend corrective actions.
• Coordinate closely with Chartering, Marine, Legal, Insurance, Accounts and Technical departments to ensure efficient voyage management and minimize claims exposure.
• Ensure compliance with applicable industry regulations, environmental requirements, and Company policies.
• Deliver the highest standards of customer service to both cargo and tonnage customers by developing effective working relationships and understanding their business requirements.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
• Degree or Diploma in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in dry bulk shipping operations.
• Good understanding of dry bulk commercial operations, particularly in the Panamax and Capesize sectors.
• Strong knowledge of Charter Party terms and BIMCO clauses, with the ability to interpret and apply operationally significant provisions.
• Experience in laytime calculation, demurrage management, cargo documentation, and voyage execution.
• Experience using Voyage Management Systems, particularly Dataloy VMS, for voyage scheduling, operational monitoring, bunker management, voyage accounting, and P&L tracking will be highly advantageous. Experience with Softmar, Veson, or similar maritime software is also desirable.
• Familiarity with bunker procurement, bunker consumption analysis and voyage profitability monitoring.
• Working knowledge of environmental and regulatory requirements, including IMO regulations, EU ETS, FuelEU Maritime, and emissions reporting requirements, will be an advantage.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple voyages simultaneously.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
