Description

Englehart Animal Hospital — Veterinarian (DVM)

Location: Englehart, Ontario (small, walkable community — 3.1 km from Kap-Kig-Iwan Provincial Park)
Schedule options: Full-time (4–5 days/week) | Part-time | Rotational block coverage (e.g., 2 weeks on / 1 week off, or 1 week/month) — travel and accommodation provided for rotational schedules
Position type: Replacement position

Welcome to Englehart Animal Hospital — where VIP parking comes standard, and so does the warmest team in Northern Ontario.

Why this role is different

You carry no on-call as our first full-time DVM. On-call at Englehart begins only when we add a second doctor. This is a genuine work-life balance commitment, not a tagline.

Location matters — and we've designed around it. We know Englehart isn't for everyone, which is why we offer flexible scheduling structures:

  • Rotational block coverage: live where you choose, work here in defined blocks. We cover travel and accommodation.
  • Part-time or full-time: 4–5 days/week, or fewer if that's your pace.
  • "Try before you move" pathway: start with block coverage or part-time hours, convert to permanent full-time whenever you're ready.

Englehart is a small, family-oriented community where you can walk to everything you need. If the outdoors calls you, we're minutes from Kap-Kig-Iwan Provincial Park — hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and waterfalls year-round.

Compensation & relocation — the actual numbers

  • Base salary: $150,000–$180,000 plus production (quarterly), 6x production multiple, no negative accrual, and includes food sales and prescription refills — your production grows with the practice, not against it.
  • Signing bonus: up to $70,000
  • Relocation package: moving costs / temporary housing for first 30–60 days / spousal-partner employment support
  • Immigration and work visa support: comprehensive, from day one where applicable.

What we offer

  • Guaranteed base + production (no negative accrual)
  • Comprehensive benefits: medical (vision, dental, life), long-term disability
  • Paid veterinary licensing dues and provincial membership fees
  • Professional liability and malpractice insurance
  • Professional development allowance
  • VIN membership
  • Veterinary AI scribe membership (Fydo DX)
  • Uniform allowance
  • Vacation and paid time off
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Program (mental health, relationships, financial, nutritional)
  • Access to VetCare's veterinary learning platform and community-wide social platform
  • Free or discounted on-site CE
  • Voluntary RSP/TFSA contribution plan
  • Generous referral program, recognition programs, annual performance review
  • Employee pet discounts, paid pet bereavement day, paid sick days

The VetCare network advantage

You're joining a Canada-wide community of veterinary practices, not a standalone clinic. That means networking and knowledge exchange with other DVMs, mentorship matching (whether you're offering guidance or seeking it), and the resources of a national network behind a clinic that still feels like home.

About the role

Our ideal DVM has 3–7 years of experience, demonstrates a high standard of medical expertise (including surgical and dental proficiency), and is confident making independent decisions and managing complex cases. You'll leverage your medical knowledge, teamwork, and emotional intelligence to deliver exceptional veterinary medicine.

Englehart Animal Hospital provides wellness exams, client education, dentistry, rehabilitation, in-house grooming, surgery, in-house laboratory diagnostics, and emergency services — all supported by a collaborative team of experienced RVTs, veterinary assistants, and client care reception.

Requirement: Candidates must hold, or be eligible to hold, a General Practice Registered Veterinarian license in Ontario at the time of application. We are also open to candidates pursuing Ontario licensure through supervised/restricted pathways — reach out to discuss your specific situation.
