VI.2.2e Driver - Per Diem
Summary
Drive residents to medical appointments, activities, and outings while ensuring safety and vehicle maintenance at a care facility in Florham Park, NJ.
PRIMARY FUNCTION
Drive the van/bus for transportation of residents to recreational activities, to pre-scheduled medical and rehabilitation therapy appointments, and to vocational training and educational pursuits.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Transport residents in a safe and timely fashion to doctor's or dentist's offices, hospital (for evaluation of therapies), planned activities or outings, vocational training programs and adult education and college.
- Deliver any necessary documentation required by physicians, therapists, or the Home, when transporting residents.
- Responsible for staying with the residents while away from the Home, if scheduled to do so by the Assistant Director of Recreation and Transportation, (i.e., the Driver is not expected to take the place of a Care Assistant, however, if a situation arises unexpectedly and a resident needs additional assistance, the Driver will be expected to exercise good personal judgment as to the resident's well-being and safety.
- Pick up and deliver resident's personal items for repair and replacement.
- Responsible for reporting any service needs to the Assistant Director of Recreation and Transportation as they occur.
- Responsible for general cleanliness of vehicles before and after each use and reporting state of exterior to the Assistant Director of Recreation and Transportation.
- Ensure that assigned vehicle has sufficient fuel and oil to perform trips as scheduled.
- Responsible for the general safety of the passengers and the vehicles while they are in the custody of the Driver.
- Inform the supervisor of whereabouts at all times. In absence of the Senior Driver and Assistant Director of Recreation and Transportation, liaison is to be maintained with Staff Nurse on duty.
- Keep supervisor apprised of any and all difficulties encountered with the residents or staff in deposition of his/her duties.
- Report any accidents or traffic violations and parking tickets to the Assistant Director of Recreation and Transportation immediately after they occur.
- Remain on schedule, making only those pick ups and drop offs as were scheduled by the Assistant Director of Recreation and Transportation and/or the residents.
- At all times, the Driver must keep safety as his/her first priority. He/She must not allow him/herself to become pressured by other staff or the residents into any situation that will shorten the travel time and force him/her to feel rushed.
- Report any untimely delays while on the road to the supervisor as they occur by use of two-way radio.
- Maintain an appropriate attitude towards the residents and other staff at all times and be receptive to residents' collective desires.
- Maintain confidentiality in respect to all aspects of resident life.
- Help lead recreational activities as may be assigned by the Assistant Director of Recreation and Transportation, at times when there are no van runs or transportation responsibilities.
- Maintain the drivers' daily and weekly logs up to date, and other records, as required.
- Must submit to random drug testing as per CDL Drivers regulations.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform any and all other related duties to the efficient and effective operation of the Home as may be assigned by the Assistant Director of Recreation and Transportation or Executive Director.
