About the Role
The Vice President of Clinical Programs is the senior business leader responsible for the strategy, development, implementation, and performance of Birdi's clinical programs, including therapy management, patient education, and adherence monitoring.
This executive leadership role oversees clinical program development, pharmacy practice standards, quality management, regulatory compliance, payer and pharmaceutical partnerships, and proprietary pharmacy system enhancements. The Vice President partners closely with Pharmacy Operations, Compliance, Manufacturer Relations, Information Technology, and Account Management teams to deliver measurable clinical value while improving patient outcomes and business performance.
This role has direct leadership responsibility for clinical team members and serves as a key contributor to Birdi's long-term strategic growth.
What You'll Do
Clinical Program Strategy & Leadership
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of clinical pharmacy programs.
- Provide strategic oversight for utilization management programs and formulary administration.
- Develop clinical practice guidelines, policies, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Analyze clinical and pharmacy cost drivers and implement strategies that improve outcomes while controlling expenses.
- Provide strategic direction for Medication Therapy Management (MTM) and other professional pharmacy services.
Quality & Regulatory Excellence
- Ensure delivery of high-quality, compliant, and cost-effective clinical pharmacy services.
- Maintain compliance with URAC, NCQA, and other accreditation and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee audit preparation and readiness activities.
- Develop, implement, and maintain Birdi's Quality Management Program (QMP).
- Lead the Quality Management Committee and other quality-focused initiatives.
- Oversee the Clinical Oversight Committee and clinical governance activities.
Pharmacy Practice & Clinical Operations
- Provide oversight of pharmacy practice standards, policies, and procedures, including REMS and other high-touch products.
- Advance pharmacy practice models to align with evolving patient care and business needs.
- Oversee clinical appeals, adverse incident reviews, and prevention programs.
- Support the development and implementation of enterprise clinical initiatives.
Technology & Analytics
- Serve as the clinical subject matter expert for proprietary pharmacy system development and enhancements.
- Establish meaningful performance metrics to assess operational and clinical effectiveness.
- Utilize reporting and analytics to drive quality improvement, efficiency, and business performance.
Executive Leadership & Collaboration
- Partner with executive leadership to prioritize strategic initiatives and resolve operational challenges.
- Build strong relationships across departments to support growth, profitability, and service excellence.
- Develop, mentor, and lead high-performing clinical teams.
- Represent Birdi at industry conferences, advisory boards, and professional organizations.
What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
- PharmD or equivalent advanced clinical degree.
- Active pharmacist license in good standing.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in clinical services and pharmacy operations.
- 7+ years of leadership experience managing large-scale, multi-site operations and geographically dispersed teams.
- Demonstrated success leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and pharmacy-related technology platforms.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong strategic planning, leadership, and project management skills.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Advanced analytical, financial reporting, and operational performance management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or business-related advanced degree.
- Board certification and/or residency training.
- Experience in managed care, retail pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, or mail-order pharmacy environments.
- Experience with pharmacy contracting and payer relationships.
Work Environment
- Remote/home-office based position.
- Approximately 15% travel, including occasional overnight travel.
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
- Travel may include both automobile and air transportation.
