This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Vice President & General Manager based in Australia.

This is a senior executive opportunity to establish and lead a growing biopharmaceutical business in Australia from the ground up. You will shape the country strategy, build a high-performing multifunctional organization, and prepare the market for multiple oncology product launches. The role combines commercial leadership, P&L ownership, market access, government affairs, clinical development, and organizational design. As a member of the broader regional leadership team, you will influence regional growth priorities while contributing to global commercialization and development strategies. You will build critical relationships with regulators, government stakeholders, healthcare institutions, clinical leaders, patient organizations, and industry partners. This is an entrepreneurial, high-impact role for a leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is motivated by improving access to innovative treatments for patients with serious diseases.

Accountabilities

  • Serve as a core member of the regional leadership team, contributing to global commercialization strategy, regional growth priorities, and long-term business planning.
  • Develop and execute the Australian business strategy, aligning local priorities with global corporate objectives and identifying opportunities, competitive dynamics, and business risks.
  • Establish the Australian affiliate from the ground up, including organizational design, governance, infrastructure, operating processes, and overall readiness for future growth.
  • Own the Australian P&L, ensuring disciplined financial management, effective resource allocation, investment prioritization, and sustainable commercial growth.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing multifunctional leadership team while building succession plans and strengthening leadership capabilities across the organization.
  • Foster an inclusive, high-performance culture centered on innovation, collaboration, integrity, accountability, and patient focus.
  • Lead organizational change and rapid growth while maintaining strong employee engagement and effective collaboration across regional and global matrix teams.
  • Develop comprehensive pre-launch and commercialization strategies across the oncology portfolio and lead cross-functional launch planning across Medical Affairs, Commercial, Market Access, Regulatory, and Operations.
  • Drive excellence in forecasting, portfolio planning, customer engagement, commercial execution, and data-informed decision making, including the effective use of digital engagement capabilities.
  • Develop integrated market access strategies designed to optimize patient access and reimbursement outcomes.
  • Lead engagement with Australian regulatory and reimbursement bodies, including the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC), Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC), and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships with Federal, State, and Territory governments, policymakers, industry associations, patient advocacy organizations, clinical societies, and other healthcare stakeholders.
  • Integrate health economics, evidence generation, reimbursement planning, and healthcare policy considerations into product development and launch strategies.
  • Partner with global clinical development and medical teams to strengthen Australia's contribution to global clinical programs, including investigator engagement, site selection, patient recruitment, and clinical trial execution.
  • Develop strategic relationships with leading oncology centers, academic institutions, and cooperative clinical trial groups while ensuring local insights inform lifecycle planning and future development priorities.
  • Maintain strong governance, regulatory, legal, compliance, risk management, business continuity, and operational resilience standards.
  • Oversee contracts, third-party relationships, and local fiduciary responsibilities while maintaining the highest standards of business integrity and ethical conduct.
  • Travel regularly within Australia and internationally to support stakeholder engagement, regional collaboration, and global business priorities.
  • Requirements:

    • Advanced degree in Life Sciences, Business Administration, or a related discipline; an MBA, PhD, or PharmD is preferred.
    • Significant senior leadership experience within the Australian biopharmaceutical industry, with a strong understanding of the local healthcare and pharmaceutical environment.
    • Demonstrated success leading commercial organizations with full P&L accountability and responsibility for strategic and financial performance.
    • Proven experience establishing, building, or significantly scaling a pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical affiliate.
    • Strong track record of leading successful oncology product launches, ideally within precision oncology or biomarker-driven medicine.
    • Deep understanding of the Australian pharmaceutical market, including market access, reimbursement, healthcare policy, regulatory pathways, and engagement with government stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated ability to influence regulators, policymakers, healthcare institutions, industry partners, patient organizations, and other external stakeholders.
    • Experience leading multifunctional, matrixed organizations within a global environment and collaborating effectively across international teams.
    • Strong strategic planning, financial management, commercial, and organizational leadership capabilities.
    • Exceptional executive presence, communication, stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and influencing skills.
    • Strategic and enterprise-oriented mindset combined with strong commercial acumen and entrepreneurial thinking.
    • Patient-first orientation, high integrity, accountability, and confidence making courageous decisions in complex or ambiguous situations.
    • Ability to inspire and develop people while creating a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance culture.
    • Comfortable operating in a dynamic, fast-paced growth environment where priorities and organizational needs evolve quickly.
    • Fluency in English is required.
    • Experience within high-growth or start-up biotechnology organizations is preferred.
    • Early commercial planning experience within clinical-stage biotechnology companies is advantageous.
    • International leadership experience and strong project or program management capabilities are a plus.
