Position Summary

The Visual Inspector I plays a critical role in safeguarding product quality and patient safety within a compounding pharmacy environment. This position is responsible for conducting thorough, hands-on visual inspections of pharmacy and wellness products using sensory evaluation techniques, sight, smell, and touch, along with non-specialized inspection tools, to identify defects, inconsistencies, or deviations from established quality standards before products reach the customer. Working closely with pharmacists and production teams, the Visual Inspector I helps ensure that every product meets rigorous compounding quality protocols, regulatory requirements, and company specifications. This role combines careful attention to detail with strong documentation practices, accurately recording inspection findings, identifying trends, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts that reduce quality issues over time.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct visual inspections of pharmacy and wellness products using human senses and non-specialized equipment
  • Utilize sensory evaluation (sight, smell, touch) to identify defects or inconsistencies
  • Perform regular quality assessments on all outgoing products to ensure they meet established specifications
  • Reject products that do not meet quality expectations and accurately document findings
  • Collaborate with the pharmacy team to ensure adherence to compounding quality protocols and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with production teams to ensure best practices in product handling and preparation
  • Maintain accurate records of inspection results, including any discrepancies or defects found
  • Prepare and submit detailed reports on quality assessments, trends, and recommendations for improvement
  • Ensure that products comply with design and safety specifications
  • Work closely with pharmacists and production staff to address quality concerns and enhance product quality
  • Provide training to team members on quality control standards and procedures, emphasizing attention to detail
  • Identify and resolve quality-related issues promptly, implementing corrective actions as necessary
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to prevent future quality issues
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (Pharmacy Technician Trainees are welcome to apply)
  • 1+ years of experience as a certified pharmacy technician or as a trainee
  • Some experience in using inspection tools and equipment, such as magnifying glasses and measuring devices
  • Strong observational skills with a focus on precision
  • Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions based on inspection findings
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to quality issues
  • Ability to work with pharmacy software, cloud-based communication tools, and mobile platforms
  • Strong attention to detail, reliable time management, and a team-oriented attitude
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in quality control or visual inspection within a compounding pharmacy or pharmaceutical environment

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Fast-paced pharmacy setting requiring multitasking and attention to detail
  • Collaborative team environment with cross-functional exposure to compounding, fulfillment, and clinical coordination
  • May require occasional remote or telephonic patient interactions
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during shifts
  • Frequent use of hands for typing, data entry, and medication preparation
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally
  • Visual acuity required for reading prescriptions and verifying medication labels
