Why This Role Exists

Vecinos operates a six-vehicle fleet that supports patient transportation, mobile clinic operations, and staff travel across eight counties. Keeping those vehicles road-ready — fueled, clean, inspected, and serviced on schedule — is critical to our mission and our grant compliance.

Right now, the day-to-day logistics of fleet upkeep fall entirely to one person. This volunteer role creates meaningful capacity relief by taking on the hands-on, physical side of fleet care: the runs to the car wash, the oil change appointments, the gas station stops. It's not glamorous, but it keeps six mission-critical vehicles moving.

What You'd Actually Be Doing

  • Drive organizational vehicles to scheduled maintenance appointments (oil changes, tire rotations, inspections)
  • Transport vehicles to and from state inspection and emissions testing
  • Run vehicles through car wash facilities on a regular rotation
  • Fill fuel tanks per organizational fueling protocols (Divvy card system — training provided)
  • Perform basic visual checks and report any observable issues (warning lights, damage, fluid levels)
  • Log service runs and maintain simple activity records for fleet documentation
  • Coordinate scheduling with the Executive & Facilities Manager in advance

What We're Looking For

  • Valid North Carolina driver's license with clean driving record
  • Comfortable driving a range of vehicle types including a full-size van and pickup truck
  • Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working independently
  • Basic familiarity with vehicle care (not mechanical knowledge — just attentiveness)
  • Able to pass Vecinos' standard volunteer screening and background check
  • This role is not appropriate for students under 25 due to organizational insurance requirements

Important Notes

  • All driving is on organizational business only — no personal use of vehicles
  • Volunteer will be covered under Vecinos' organizational vehicle insurance while on duty
  • Fuel purchases handled exclusively through the organizational Divvy card — no out-of-pocket expenses
  • Scheduling is flexible and coordinated around the volunteer's availability
