The Volunteer Program Manager is responsible for leading the recruitment, engagement, retention, recognition, and evaluation of volunteers for Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King & Kittitas Counties. Guided by our core values of service, respect, community, and results, this role plays a critical part in mobilizing individuals and groups to support affordable housing initiatives throughout our region.

This position is designed for a creative, energetic, and relationship-driven professional who is passionate about inspiring community involvement. This position focuses on strengthening existing partnerships and cultivating new connections by engaging volunteers through service opportunities, advocacy efforts, educational experiences, community forums, and related outreach activities.

Key responsibilities include coordinating volunteer events and orientations, managing volunteer communications and newsletters, supporting community outreach and appreciation events/efforts, and maintaining accurate volunteer records and data systems. The Volunteer Program Manager will ensure both digital and paper-based volunteer information is effectively tracked, organized, and maintained while fostering a positive and meaningful volunteer experience.

Essential Functions

Volunteer Management:

  • Lead and host volunteer groups, communicating the impact of homeownership and the challenges affecting affordable housing in our region. Serve as the primary onsite contact for volunteer teams, ensuring participants are effectively engaged and have a meaningful, productive experience.
  • Manage the recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, deployment, evaluation, and recognition of more than 2,000 volunteers (and ~90 groups) annually.
  • Expand and strengthen the volunteer pipeline through proactive outreach and relationship-building with corporations, community organizations, faith-based groups, young professionals, colleges and universities, civic organizations, and individual volunteers.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve volunteer onboarding, orientation, and training programs that prepare volunteers for successful experiences at construction sites, Habitat Stores, and affiliate locations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective and current volunteers, managing volunteer inquiries and overseeing the volunteer email account to ensure timely, professional communication.
  • Administer VolunteerHub, Habitat's volunteer management and scheduling platform, including coordinating monthly volunteer schedules across construction sites, retail stores, and affiliate offices.
  • Collect, maintain, and manage volunteer data through digital systems and onsite documentation, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timely entry of volunteer information into the Raiser's Edge CRM platform.
  • Plan and execute outreach initiatives targeting youth, colleges and universities, Habitat Young Professionals, and other community groups to increase volunteer participation and community engagement.
  • Facilitate and coordinate onsite volunteer activities, including orientations, safety trainings, volunteer education sessions, affordable housing and advocacy discussions, team-building activities, and end-of-day reflections.
  • Provide onsite support as needed at construction build days, Habitat Stores, community events, and other volunteer activities throughout the year, helping to ensure a positive, safe, and impactful volunteer experience from start to finish.

Resource Development Support:

  • Support the RD team in meeting corporate sponsorship commitments, including but not limited to preparing volunteer sites for hosting volunteer groups, working with company contacts to manage registrations, etc., acquiring supplies, coordinating meals, arranging necessary setup of space, and presenting the Habitat story to volunteers.
  • Communicate affiliate priorities to the community by hosting monthly Volunteer orientation events, volunteer newsletters, attending public speaking opportunities, hosting webinars and Zoom calls, and other in-person and virtual events to recruit volunteers.
  • Manage and grow the Habitat Young Professionals program including developing a recurring newsletter, hosting meetings and events, grow the membership, and facilitate goal setting and tracking.
  • Research and execute on Habitat International’s Global Village program, helping Habitat SKKC to expand the breadth and depth of understanding of Habitat’s work while volunteering in countries across the globe and in the U.S.
  • Serve as project manager for the annual Women Build program and Volunteer Appreciation Event, leading planning, coordination, execution, and evaluation efforts. Support the planning and implementation of additional affinity build events as needed.
  • Work closely with all program and department managers in King and Kittitas counties to periodically assess needs for volunteers' expertise and level of volunteer staffing, to include providing training and facilitation for volunteer management processes.
  • Work with the Chief Development Officer on building and marketing the program for our audience.
  • Attend staff meetings and other internal meetings as requested.
