VP, Data & Analytics
Description
Position Summary
Reporting to the Head of Technology, the Vice President, Data & Analytics will build and lead the enterprise data platform that powers decisions across our 400+ communities and 110,000+ apartment homes. This executive owns the full data lifecycle — from ingestion out of our core operational systems (property management, CRM, HCM, financial, and procurement platforms) and site IoT devices, through cloud-based transformation pipelines, to governed self-service insights for mission-critical business functions.
Data is the connective tissue of our business. Every leasing decision, maintenance workflow, rent optimization signal, and capital allocation choice is better when grounded in clean, timely, trustworthy data. Today that data lives across rich but complex operational systems. This VP will transform it into a governed, cloud-native analytics platform — anchored on the Microsoft Azure data stack with Power BI as the analytics layer — that the entire organization can rely on.
Success in this role is equal parts architecture and influence. The VP will build and mentor a high-performing team of data engineers and analysts, set the data governance and security standards that protect resident and employee information, partner with senior leaders to prioritize data investments, and lead the cultural shift to data-driven decision-making across the enterprise.
Essential Duties
Data Platform & Engineering
Lead the transformation of fragmented operational data into a scalable, governed, cloud-native enterprise data platform that supports reliable reporting, analytics, AI, and decision-making across the organization
Design and own the end-to-end enterprise data architecture on our cloud platform - anchored today on the Microsoft Azure data stack (Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, Azure Synapse Analytics / Microsoft Fabric) with Power BI as the analytics and reporting layer
Continuously evaluate and evolve the platform architecture - including modern lakehouse and cloud data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, and Snowflake - to support continued portfolio growth and evolving business needs
Lead the strategy, architecture, and delivery of scalable ETL/ELT capabilities that integrate data from core operational systems—including property management, CRM, HCM, financial, procurement, and IoT/smart-home devices—into centralized data warehouse and lakehouse environments
Establish scalable, well-documented data integration patterns for source-system APIs and third-party vendor feeds
Define and govern data quality standards, master data management (MDM) practices, and data lineage documentation across all source systems.
Build and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines for data workflows, ensuring monitoring, alerting, and SLA adherence for mission-critical data products
Analytics, Reporting & Business Intelligence
Own the enterprise business intelligence center of excellence - anchored on Power BI - establishing semantic model standards, row-level security frameworks, workspace governance, and self-service enablement for multiple business functions (e.g. property management, leasing, HR, finance, etc.)
Partner with business functions to develop and publish KPIs
Partner with Data Science, Technology, and business leaders to establish the data foundations required for advanced analytics, AI, and emerging technology initiatives, ensuring models and solutions are supported by reliable, governed data
Ensure all reporting layers (operational dashboards, executive scorecards, ad-hoc self-service) are accessible, performant, and governed through a clearly documented data catalog
Strategy & Leadership
Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of data engineers and analysts; define career ladders and foster a culture of curiosity and accountability
Develop, execute, and continuously refresh the enterprise data and analytics roadmap, aligning investments with Morgan Properties' growth strategy, acquisitions pipeline, technology modernization priorities, and evolving business needs
Partner with senior leaders across the organization to prioritize data investments and translate business outcomes into engineering requirements
Manage strategic vendor and platform relationships (cloud, BI, and data tooling providers); negotiate contracts and evaluate emerging technologies
Translate complex data and analytics capabilities into actionable business insights and recommendations, helping senior leaders identify opportunities, manage risk, improve operational performance, and make informed investment decisions
Data Governance & Security
Implement a formal data governance framework - spanning people, process, and technology - covering ownership, classification, quality metrics, and stewardship across data domains, using a federated model that centralizes platform and standards while embedding domain ownership in the business
Ensure compliance with applicable data privacy regulations (e.g., state-level tenant data laws, Fair Housing data considerations) and internal information security policies
Collaborate with IT Security to enforce access controls, audit logging, and encryption standards for all data assets across the cloud environment
Additional Duties: Tasks or duties not outlined in this job description may be required to contribute to the organization's success and efficiency.
