Description

VP, Enterprise Information Systems
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Job Overview: The Vice President, Enterprise Information Systems is the executive accountable for how Cleveland Diagnostics uses information systems and data across the company. The role owns the enterprise application portfolio, the information moving between systems, enterprise architecture and data management, and the decisions about what the company buys, builds and connects. It sets the standard for how systems are selected, implemented, supported and evidenced, and holds that standard across every function.

The Vice President EIS will build the enterprise information systems function that supports the company’s growth and commercialization, including the people, the practices and the governance, and will be a direct partner to commercial, laboratory operations, quality, medical affairs, and finance. The role calls for proven experience delivering enterprise system implementations in a regulated environment, hands-on fluency in analytics, automation and AI-enabled tools, and the executive presence to translate business needs into clear technology decisions. Cybersecurity, infrastructure and help desk are led by other members of the team; this role partners closely with those leaders but does not own those functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Strategy and Governance
  • Set and maintain a multi-year information systems strategy and roadmap, aligned to company objectives, commercialization plans, and the demands of a regulated, public-company environment.
  • Own the governance process through which new systems, renewals and integrations are evaluated and approved, in partnership with finance and information technology.
  • Maintain a current register of the application estate: ownership, cost, renewal, data sensitivity and financial reporting scope.
  • Advise the executive team and the board on technology investment, risk, trade-offs and capability, and report regularly on portfolio performance, project status and strategic initiatives.
  • Translate business and commercialization milestones into a sequenced systems, data and process roadmap with clear owners, dependencies and readiness criteria.
Applications, Architecture and Data
  • Own the enterprise application portfolio - every system the business depends on, whoever bought it and wherever it sits. That includes the systems of record (ERP, CRM, laboratory information, quality and billing), the departmental and specialist applications around them, customer and partner-facing portals, analytics and reporting platforms, and the integrations and interfaces between all of them.
  • Set the integration architecture: where data is mastered, which system is the record for what, and how systems connect.
  • Own enterprise data management - definitions, quality, lineage and access - so that reporting is consistent across functions.
  • Own business intelligence and analytics capability, and the reporting the business and the board rely on.
  • Identify and implement practical automation and AI-enabled capabilities that improve productivity and decision-making, with responsible governance and sustained adoption.
Delivery and Operations
  • Establish and run a delivery practice for systems projects: requirements, design, testing, validation proportionate to risk, deployment and handover.
  • Lead enterprise portfolio and project governance, including demand intake, investment prioritization, resource planning, project controls, risk and dependency management, and benefits realization.
  • Establish the support model for business systems - service levels, escalation, change control and release management.
  • Own vendor and partner management for application vendors, managed service providers and systems integrators, including selection, scope, commercial terms, renewals and performance.
  • Own business continuity and disaster recovery planning for business applications, with information technology.
  • Drive continuous improvement by partnering with business leaders to standardize systems and processes, automate key workflows and reduce manual effort.
Risk, Compliance and Controls
  • Ensure systems meet the company’s regulatory obligations, including validation and change control expectations under FDA quality regulation, data protection under HIPAA, and internal control over financial reporting.
  • Produce and maintain the evidence an audit or inspection requires access reviews, change logs, vendor assurance reports and validation records.
  • Maintain IT general controls over business systems, including access governance, user provisioning and segregation of duties, in support of Sarbanes-Oxley and financial reporting requirements.
  • Partner with information technology and cybersecurity leaders, who own security operations and the help desk, on security governance, access management and third-party risk.
Organization and Leadership
  • Build the enterprise information systems function: define the roles and structure, create a phased hiring plan that scales with the business, recruit and develop the team, and decide what is held internally and what is delivered through partners.
  • Develop internal capability so that core system knowledge is held by the company rather than its suppliers.
  • Develop and manage the systems operating and capital budgets and multi-year investment plans, bring transparency to what the company spends on systems and why, and identify opportunities for cost savings and platform rationalization
  • Work as a business partner across functions - translating business needs into system capability, and system constraint into business language.
Qualifications/Requirements

An accomplished enterprise systems leader with a minimum of 15 years of progressive experience, including significant time at or near executive level, who brings direct experience in diagnostics, clinical laboratory services, or a closely related regulated healthcare or life sciences segment. Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, hands-on, high-growth environment, and able to communicate complex technology matters clearly to senior leaders and colleagues outside IT.

Required

  • Fifteen or more years in enterprise information systems, including at least five years in an executive or senior leadership role, with real ownership of an application estate rather than a single platform.
  • Experience in a regulated industry - diagnostics, medical device, pharmaceutical or healthcare - including validation and change control expectations under FDA quality regulation, and data protection under HIPAA.
  • Has taken an organization through an initial public offering, an audit, or a comparable control environment, and knows what evidence is required in practice.
  • Practical knowledge of the platform types in use: ERP, CRM, laboratory information systems, quality systems, integration tooling, and analytics, reporting and data platforms.
  • Proven success leading ERP, CRM, laboratory and other enterprise system implementations, upgrades and integrations, and optimizing them after go-live.
  • Has built a function and the practices around it - support, administration, change control and delivery - not only inherited one.
  • Experience managing consultants and systems integrators, including scoping, reviewing and accepting their work.
  • Experience developing and managing technology budgets, strategic vendor contracts and build-versus-buy decisions, with strong business and financial acumen.
  • Working knowledge of data governance, business intelligence and analytics, and active, responsible use of AI and automation tools to improve how the business operates.
  • Proven people leader with executive presence, and the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels, including the executive team and the board.
  • Able to decline a request from a senior stakeholder with a reason they accept, and to move quickly when the answer is obvious. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree or MBA.
  • Experience in diagnostics, medical technology, life sciences, or clinical laboratory billing and revenue cycle systems.
Physical Requirements/ Working Conditions/Equipment Used:
  • Ability to sit and/or stand and operate a computer with ability to multitask across many software communication and data entry programs while operating and communicating through telephone device for several hours a day
  • Light lifting up to 10#s may be required; offices reachable by elevator but should be able to climb stairs in case elevator out
  • General office noise, HVAC and fluorescent lighting
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
