VP of Data Analytics Engineering & Governance
Summary
Executive-level role leading enterprise data strategy, cloud data platform engineering, and data governance for a P&C insurance company. The VP oversees scalable data pipelines, SOX/statutory compliance, data quality and security, and builds and leads data engineering and governance teams in Tampa.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Enterprise Data Strategy & Leadership
- Define and execute a multi-year enterprise data strategy aligned to corporate growth, profitability, and risk management priorities.
- Partner with executive leadership to enable data-driven decision-making across underwriting, actuarial, finance, and operations.
- Serve as the senior authority on data architecture, governance, and platform investments.
Data Platform & Engineering
- Oversee the design, build, and operation of scalable, cloud-native data platforms and pipelines supporting enterprise analytics and reporting.
- Ensure integration of core insurance systems (e.g., policy, billing, claims) into a unified and governed data ecosystem.
- Establish standards for modern engineering practices, including automation, CI/CD, and data reliability.
Data Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Lead enterprise data governance frameworks to ensure data quality, lineage, integrity, and appropriate use of data assets.
- Ensure compliance with public company requirements, including SOX controls, statutory reporting, and audit readiness.
- Define and enforce data security standards, including access controls and protection of sensitive and regulated data.
Operational Excellence & Financial Stewardship
- Implement data observability and quality monitoring to proactively identify and resolve data issues.
- Drive efficient use of cloud resources, aligning platform performance with budget and cost management expectations.
- Establish service levels and operational metrics to ensure reliability of data platforms supporting business and financial processes.
Executive Partnership & Reporting
- Advise senior leadership on data-related risks, opportunities, and investment priorities.
- Support internal and external audit activities related to data platforms, controls, and governance practices.
- Communicate performance, risks, and progress against strategic objectives to executive stakeholders.
Team Leadership & Development
- Build, lead, and develop high-performing data engineering and governance teams.
- Provide leadership to employees and regularly conduct effective and timely structured Progress & Growth conversations.
- Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and Licensing Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- 12+ years of progressive experience in data engineering, analytics platforms, or data architecture.
- 5+ years of people leadership experience.
- Experience operating within a publicly traded company, with strong knowledge of SOX, financial reporting controls, and audit requirements.
- Experience supporting enterprise data platforms used for financial, regulatory, or statutory reporting.
- P&C insurance experience required, including familiarity with policy, claims, and financial data domains.
Qualifications/Skills and Competencies:
- Strong understanding of insurance operations, data domains, and regulatory environments.
- Proven leadership of enterprise-scale cloud data platforms (e.g., Azure, Databricks, or similar).
- Experience integrating core insurance systems (e.g., Duck Creek, Guidewire, or equivalent platforms).
- Deep knowledge of data governance practices, including data quality, lineage, and access management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and operational discipline.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership.
- Ability to lead through complexity, balance speed with risk management, and drive organizational change.
- Proficient in MSO/365 applications such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
