Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a VP of Engineering based in the United States.

The VP of Engineering will play a pivotal role in building and scaling technology solutions that improve access to affordable medications across the United States. This hands-on engineering leadership opportunity involves developing innovative healthcare platforms that streamline medication donations and distribution. Working closely with executive leadership, you will help transform an early-stage product into a scalable solution supporting major health systems and pharmacy partners. You will oversee full-stack product development, technical architecture, cloud infrastructure, and engineering quality. The role combines strategic technical decision-making with hands-on execution in a fast-moving startup environment. You will also establish the engineering foundations, processes, and standards needed to support future team growth. This is an opportunity to use technology to address meaningful healthcare challenges and improve patient access to essential medications.

Accountabilities

The VP of Engineering will drive product development and technical execution, working closely with executive leadership to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable healthcare technology solutions.

  • Product Development and Technical Strategy: Lead the development of the first donation management platform for healthcare systems, replacing manual, email-based workflows. Build and maintain products serving healthcare providers, health systems, and medication supply operations. Translate complex requirements, including multi-state regulatory rules, medication transfers, and expiration tracking across thousands of SKUs, into effective software solutions.

  • Full-Stack Engineering: Design, develop, test, and deploy end-to-end features across frontend, backend, and database systems. Work primarily with React, Python/Django, and PostgreSQL while continuously improving the existing codebase and addressing accumulated technical debt.

  • Engineering Architecture and Execution: Partner with technology leadership on architectural decisions, technical priorities, and product direction. Take ownership of engineering projects from initial concept through production deployment, ensuring maintainability, performance, and reliability.

  • Healthcare Integrations: Build and maintain integrations with health systems, pharmacies, logistics providers, and other external partners. Ensure seamless data exchange and efficient operational workflows across the medication donation ecosystem.

  • Infrastructure and Cloud Operations: Manage and improve AWS infrastructure using CDK and Terraform. Establish scalable deployment practices, strengthen system reliability, and maintain appropriate infrastructure standards as the platform grows.

  • Security and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all product features and technical processes meet HIPAA requirements and protect protected health information (PHI). Incorporate security, privacy, and compliance considerations into system architecture and development workflows.

  • Code Quality and Technical Documentation: Improve engineering standards, code quality, documentation, and development processes. Identify inefficiencies in existing systems and workflows while creating a technical foundation that enables future engineers to onboard effectively.

  • Executive and Founder Collaboration: Work directly with the CEO and technology leadership on product strategy, technical planning, and design implementation. Translate Figma designs into functional product experiences and contribute to business and engineering decisions within a small, collaborative team.

  • Engineering Team Development: Establish the technical foundations, architecture, and processes required to support future engineering hires. Promote ownership, technical excellence, and continuous improvement as the organization transitions toward larger-scale operations.

  • Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced full-stack software engineer with an entrepreneurial mindset, a strong track record of delivering products from the ground up, and the ability to combine hands-on development with strategic technical leadership.

    • At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, including 2 or more years working in seed-stage to Series A startups or small, autonomous engineering teams.

    • Proven experience taking at least one product or major feature from initial concept to production as an early engineering team member.

    • Strong full-stack development experience across frontend, backend, and database technologies.

    • Hands-on production experience with Python/Django, React, and PostgreSQL, or equivalent modern technology stacks.

    • Recent hands-on coding experience, with active individual contributor responsibilities within the last two years.

    • Demonstrated ability to own complex engineering projects independently and deliver reliable production-ready solutions.

    • Experience improving existing codebases, reducing technical debt, and establishing scalable engineering practices.

    • Familiarity with AWS infrastructure and infrastructure-as-code tools such as CDK and Terraform.

    • Understanding of software security, data privacy, and regulatory requirements, ideally within HIPAA-compliant or other regulated environments.

    • A public GitHub profile, technical portfolio, open-source contributions, or side projects demonstrating engineering capabilities.

    • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and architectural decision-making skills.

    • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with experience working directly with founders and cross-functional stakeholders.

    • Entrepreneurial mindset, adaptability, ownership, and comfort operating in a fast-paced startup environment.

    • Professional English proficiency at C1 level or higher.

    • Must be based in the United States and currently authorized to work under W-2 employment arrangements.

    • Nice-to-Have:

      • Previous experience in healthcare technology, digital pharmacy, healthtech, logistics, or supply chain software.

      • Experience building and maintaining HIPAA-compliant platforms or other regulated technology products.

      • Practical experience integrating AI capabilities into production products or business workflows.

      • Experience working with complex data systems, third-party integrations, and operational platforms.

      • Based in New York City or Sugar Land, Texas, or willing to relocate to either location.

      • Benefits:

        • Competitive Salary: Compensation based on experience, skills, and qualifications.

        • Remote Work: Fully remote opportunity, allowing you to work from anywhere in the United States.

        • Location Flexibility: New York City and Houston are preferred locations, with relocation assistance available.

        • Team Incentives: Recognition for maintaining 100% CRM data hygiene and submitting reports on time.

        • Generous Paid Time Off: Vacation and leave benefits in accordance with company policy.

        • Direct Mentorship: Opportunities to learn from and receive guidance from experienced international industry professionals.

        • Learning and Development: Ongoing access to professional development resources and opportunities to strengthen technical expertise.

        • Global Networking: Connect and collaborate with professionals across international teams.

        • Meaningful Impact: Contribute to technology that helps redistribute unused medications and improve access to affordable healthcare.
