We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Software Engineering Vice President to serve as the technology lead for our Trade Finance solutions. This individual contributor will provide technical direction across architecture, engineering, integration, data, cloud, security, and platform modernization. The role will be partnered closely with engineering teams, product management, operations, compliance, vendors, and other stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient solutions. Expertise in commercial banking products, payment processing, lending, and platforms such as CGI Trade360 or Loan IQ will be important for advancing our Trade Finance capabilities and customer experience.
The ideal candidate will combine strong Trade Finance domain knowledge with deep application and solution architecture expertise, hands-on engineering judgment, and practical AI and generative AI experience. The technology lead will influence technical decisions, establish engineering standards, guide delivery teams, reduce technology risk, and accelerate the modernization of MUFG’s Trade Finance technology platform without having direct people-management responsibility.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 10 years of hands-on software development experience, including at least 5 years providing leadership across complex applications or platforms.
- Strong understanding of commercial banking products, including lending, Trade Finance, and Supply Chain Finance.
- Experience with CGI Trade360, Loan IQ, or another application supporting Trade Finance products is a plus.
- Proficiency in application and solution architecture, microservices, APIs, integration patterns, and cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Application development experience on data platforms, including SQL, extract-transform-load (ETL) tools, and object-oriented programming languages such as Java, Python, or C#.
- Experience with Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction and facilitate architecture decisions.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams in Agile delivery environments.
- General understanding of user interface design principles and best practices.
- Experience designing end-to-end data pipelines and CI/CD pipelines for application delivery.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Copilot, Azure OpenAI, OpenAI services, Amazon Bedrock, or equivalent enterprise AI platforms.
- Ability to define AI strategy, evaluate business cases, establish governance controls, and guide AI-enabled transformation initiatives across technology and business teams.
- Strong understanding of data engineering, data quality, and model lifecycle management to support enterprise AI adoption.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the technology lead for Trade Finance solutions, establishing technical direction and aligning architecture and engineering decisions with business priorities, security requirements, and enterprise standards.
- Partners with software engineers, architects, product managers, operations, compliance, vendors, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality technology solutions.
- Translate business and operational requirements into clear technical specifications, target-state designs, and executable engineering plans.
- Design and contribute to the development of applications, APIs, integrations, data pipelines, infrastructure, and platform capabilities.
- Define and promote engineering standards for coding, testing, security, observability, performance, resilience, and continuous delivery.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and design support to engineers while fostering shared accountability and sound engineering practices.
- Evaluate the technical viability of products, platforms, and emerging technologies; contribute to business cases; and recommend solutions that meet specific business requirements.
- Guide the integration of third-party services, applications, and capabilities to improve platform performance and support business outcomes.
- Oversee technical quality across the software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, production support, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor and analyze application performance, reliability, security, and maintainability; identify risks and recommend corrective actions or improvements.
- Perform complex application design and development using technologies appropriate to the solution, which may include Scala, Java, Node.js, REST APIs, microservices, AWS cloud infrastructure, Spark, Kubernetes, Docker, and Jenkins.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues, define clear action plans, and guide the design, testing, and production implementation of agreed solutions.
- Collaborate with external partners and vendors to evaluate capabilities, manage technical dependencies, and support platform modernization.
- Stay current with Trade Finance trends, enterprise technology practices, and emerging technologies, including AI and generative AI, and apply relevant innovations responsibly.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely-related discipline, or an equivalent combination of formal education and experience

The typical base pay range for this role is as follows:
- New York / New Jersey: $149-205 K
depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonus and/or incentive compensation.
