VTD Helper
JSW Steel is seeking and experienced VTD Helper to join our team!
The selected person will support the operation of the Vacuum Tank Degasser (VTD), a critical process used to refine molten steel and achieve precise metallurgical quality. This role works hands-on with operators to prepare equipment, monitor processes, handle materials, and maintain a safe, clean work environment. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-heat industrial setting.
Key Responsibilities:

Assist the VTD Operator with equipment setup, operation, and shutdown of the vacuum degassing system.

Prepare ladles, hoses, alloy additions, and sampling tools prior to treatment.

Monitor equipment for leaks, pressure fluctuations, temperature issues, and other abnormal conditions.

Communicate process conditions and updates clearly to the Operator and Supervisor.

Follow all instructions provided by supervision to support safe and efficient operations.

Comply with all plant safety rules, PPE requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and hot metal protocols.

Maintain safe working conditions around molten steel, heavy equipment, and overhead cranes.

Immediately report hazards, equipment malfunctions, or unsafe behaviors to supervision.

Assist with the delivery, staging, and handling of alloys for the VTD process.

Safely manage slag and debris using hand tools such as shovels, bars, and hooks.

Support sample collection and ensure timely transfer to Quality Control personnel.

Perform routine cleaning of VTD platforms, hoses, hoods, and surrounding work areas.

Assist with basic maintenance tasks including gasket replacement, hose connections, and water line checks.

Keep tools maintained and workstations organized and free of hazards.

Work collaboratively with crane operators, ladlemen, furnace operators, and QC technicians.

Accurately follow verbal and written instructions in a fast-paced production environment.

Participate in daily safety meetings, pre-shift briefings, and shift change communications.
Skills, Experience and Education:

High school diploma or GED.

Ability to work safely in extreme heat, high noise levels, and around molten steel.

Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding work.

Strong teamwork, communication, and reliability.
Preferred Skills and Experience:

Previous experience in steelmaking or heavy industrial environments.

Familiarity with melt shop operations, including ladles, furnaces, or vacuum systems.
-
Overhead crane and/or forklift experience (certification a plus).
