Warehouse Process & Operational Excellence Intern

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated intern to support our warehouse operations and operational excellence initiatives. You will work closely with Warehouse Supervisors, Team Leaders and Operators to study existing processes, develop standard work practices and identify opportunities to improve productivity, safety and operational efficiency.

This is a hands-on internship where you will spend significant time on the warehouse floor observing actual operations, collecting data and supporting improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Map warehouse processes, including receiving, put-away, replenishment, picking, packing, staging, loading, returns and value-added services.

  • Conduct process observations, time studies and operational data collection.

  • Measure cycle time, travel time, waiting time, process variability and productivity.

  • Identify bottlenecks, unnecessary movement, waiting time and other operational inefficiencies.

  • Support the calculation of standard processing times and productivity rates.

  • Develop and maintain clear Work Instructions using photographs, diagrams and process flows.

  • Document system transactions, scanning procedures and operational controls.

  • Support employee training, competency assessment and certification records.

  • Assist with Value Stream Mapping, root-cause analysis and continuous-improvement projects.

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of 5S and visual-management practices.

  • Help quantify productivity improvements, labour-hour savings and additional operational capacity.

  • Maintain accurate process records, improvement tracking and document version control.

  • Work with warehouse teams to test, implement and sustain approved process improvements.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a diploma or degree in Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering, Logistics Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing or Systems Engineering, Operations Management, or a related discipline.

  • Strong interest in warehouse operations, process improvement and operational excellence.

  • Comfortable working in a warehouse environment and engaging directly with frontline employees.

  • Good analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Careful and systematic when collecting data and maintaining records.

  • Able to work effectively with Operators, Supervisors, Managers and support functions.

Knowledge or Skills That Would Be an Advantage

  • Process mapping and time-and-motion studies

  • Lean management, Standard Work, 5S and Kaizen

  • Value Stream Mapping and root-cause analysis

  • Productivity and capacity analysis

  • Power BI, Visio, AutoCAD, WMS, SQL, Python or simulation tools

Prior experience with these tools or methodologies is advantageous but not required.
