Water Treatment Plant Operator

This is skilled work in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment facility. Responsible for safe and efficient operation of equipment used in purification of the public drinking water supply conforming to all regulatory agency requirements. This is a technical position, working independently under the general direction of the Assistant Utility Director.

• Follows regular maintenance schedule and completes minor repairs.
• Troubleshoots minor problems in the operations.
• Performs routine lab analysis to control water treatment process.
• Maintains daily production and lab records.
• Performs minor maintenance on facility, including painting, cleaning, washing down facility and ground maintenance.
• Water meter reading as required.
• Performs other work as required.

• TRAINING AND EXPERIENCEGraduation from high school or its equivalent, or an equivalent combination of formal education and working experience. Must have at least a Class “C” Florida water plant operator’s license or the ability to obtain the license in a reasonable amount of time. A valid Florida class B CDL is preferred.

• Knowledge of water operations.
• Knowledge of basic repair of pumps and various equipment.
• Ability to read meters and charts accurately.
• Ability to maintain reports accurately and legibly.
• Ability to troubleshoot minor problems.
• Ability to perform medium duty manual labor, lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Spanish speaking preferred but not required.
