WC Maintenance Manager Processing

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Processing Maintenance Manager will be responsible for all aspects of maintenance operations within the facility. This includes overseeing the maintenance of egg processing machinery, packaging equipment, refrigeration systems, and facility utilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food processing environments, a commitment to preventative and predictive maintenance, and a thorough understanding of food safety regulations. This role is crucial for minimizing downtime, maximizing operational efficiency, and upholding Rose Acres’ quality and safety standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Leadership and Team Management:

    • Lead and develop a team of maintenance technicians, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

    • Schedule, assign, and oversee the work of the maintenance team, ensuring timely and effective completion of tasks.

    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching to maintenance staff.

    • Coordinate and manage relationships with external contractors and service providers.

  • Maintenance Operations:

    • Implement and manage comprehensive preventative maintenance programs for all egg processing and packaging equipment and systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.

    • Assist in monitoring and adjusting carton dating and case labelling (verifying correct Julian date, expiration date, plant number and print is legible).

    • Assist in monitoring proper egg pack weights and shell quality.

    • Oversee troubleshooting, repair, and installation of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems, including PLCs, VFDs, and other automated control systems.

    • Manage the maintenance of boilers, refrigeration systems (including ammonia systems where applicable), HVAC, and other utility systems.

    • Ensure the egg processing facility is maintained to a high standard.

  • Budget and Inventory Management:

    • Manage the maintenance department expenses, controlling costs and ensuring efficient resource allocation.

    • Oversee the inventory of spare parts, tools, and supplies, ensuring critical components are available when needed while optimizing inventory levels.

    • Compare pricing between multiple vendors (when possible) for parts and services to achieve cost-effective solutions.

  • Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company policies, as well as local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, FDA, USDA, and EPA standards.

    • Enforce food safety protocols (e.g., GMPs, HACCP, SQF) within the maintenance department and during all maintenance activities to prevent product contamination.

    • Coordinate with the Rose Acre Safety department on regular safety inspections and implement corrective actions as needed.

    • Maintain accurate and thorough maintenance records, logs, and documentation for compliance and reporting purposes.

    • Understanding of and conformity to all Biosecurity Program Policies.

  • Continuous Improvement and Project Management:

    • Identify opportunities for improving equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

    • Lead or participate in capital projects, including equipment upgrades, new installations, and facility modifications.

    • Collaborate with production, quality assurance, and other departments to achieve plant objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required

    • Achievement of a degree or certification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field is preferred.

    • Equivalent experience in a food processing maintenance leadership role may be considered.

    • Certifications in welding, electrical work, or refrigeration are a plus.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 5 years of maintenance management experience in a food processing or manufacturing environment.

    • Proven experience in developing and implementing preventative and predictive maintenance programs.

    • Hands-on experience with troubleshooting and repairing a variety of food processing and packaging equipment.

    • Experience managing expenses and controlling maintenance costs.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, including knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, and pneumatics.

    • Familiarity with refrigeration systems

    • Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

    • Understanding of building and utility systems.

  • Regulatory Knowledge:

    • Knowledge of food safety standards (GMP, HACCP, SQF) and their application in a maintenance context.

    • Thorough understanding of OSHA and other relevant safety regulations.

    • Understanding of biosecurity protocol to prevent site contamination

  • Soft Skills:

    • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

    • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

    • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work effectively under pressure.

    • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position operates in an in-line food processing environment with layer hens on site.

  • Must supply the appropriate tools required for completing the job responsibilities (reference the attached tool sheet)

  • The role may require working in areas with varying temperatures (hot, cold, humid), noise levels, and exposure to food allergens.

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds may be required.

  • May require working evenings, weekends, holidays, or on-call as needed to support a 7 day per week operation.

  • Must possess the ability to work in an agricultural environment, indoors, outdoors, office, warehouse, processing, and farm production areas each varying in temperature, and other environment specific atmospheres.

  • Must be willing and able to work past the scheduled leave time to complete the job, if needed.

  • Must possess the ability to work in an open office setting.

  • Must maintain professionalism with coworkers.
