Discussion

Summary

Unpaid, 6-month remote internship (~20 hrs/week) for UK university students to redesign nexcellsolutions.com: designing and building responsive pages from their own ideas (Figma, HTML/CSS, React/Next.js a plus) and applying on-page SEO, audits, and Core Web Vitals improvements.

Web Design Intern - UI/UX & SEO (Unpaid)

Remote | Duration: 6 Months | Start Date: ASAP | Commitment: ~20 hours per week | Eligibility: Students enrolled in a credit-bearing UK university placement | Application Deadline: Tuesday 16th September 2026 | Unpaid (credit-bearing, contributing towards your degree)

About the Opportunity

NexCell Solutions is looking for a web design intern to help improve nexcellsolutions.com: how it looks, how it's structured, and how well it performs in search. This is primarily a design role. You will design and build new pages and sections, working from your own ideas about what the site is missing, not just from a fixed brief. SEO is the second focus: you will apply on-page SEO to what you build and help identify where new content or sections would help us get found.

You will work within NexCell's existing brand system, while having real input into how it evolves.

What You Will Do

Design new pages and sections for nexcellsolutions.com, based on gaps or opportunities you identify. Build responsive, on-brand interfaces from your own designs or from wireframes. Propose ideas for new site sections (for example: case studies, resources, service detail pages) and make the case for them. Apply on-page SEO to new and existing pages: metadata, headings, internal linking, page structure. Run light SEO audits and flag keyword or content gaps. Improve page speed and Core Web Vitals. Collaborate with the team on messaging and content for anything new you build. Push production-ready code to GitHub

Who This Is For

Students with a strong design eye who also want to understand how SEO shapes design decisions. Students currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree with a credit-bearing placement or internship module. People who like proposing and defending new ideas rather than only executing a brief. Fast learners comfortable working independently on a remote, written-English team. Reliable, disciplined contributors who communicate progress clearly

Preferred Background

Currently studying Web Design, UI/UX Design, Digital Media, Computer Science, or a related discipline. A portfolio showing real design or build work (personal projects, freelance, or coursework) is required. Hands-on HTML/CSS and comfort with a design tool such as Figma are essential. Familiarity with a modern framework such as React or Next.js is preferred. Exposure to on-page SEO, Google Search Console, Webflow, or WordPress is a plus.

Tools & Tech Exposure

Design: Figma, design systems, responsive layout; Frontend: HTML/CSS, Next.js, React, Tailwind CSS; SEO: On-page SEO, technical SEO fundamentals, Google Search Console; Analytics: Google Analytics; Version Control: Git, GitHub

How to Apply

Submit your application by email to contact@nexcellsolutions.com with:

Your CV with a cover letter; a link to your portfolio or examples of design/build work; a short paragraph (maximum 150 words): "What's one section or page you'd add to a company website like ours, and why?" Applications missing any component will not be considered.

Internship Details

Duration: 6 months. Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week, flexible around academic commitments. Location: Fully remote. Compensation: Unpaid, credit-bearing internship including mentorship, certification, and professional reference upon completion. Academic requirement: Must contribute toward a recognised UK university placement or internship module. Extension: High-performing interns may be considered for a full-time role after completion
