Web Designer and Developer
Role Positioning:
This is an ownership role, not a ticket queue. You will decide how sites are built, argue for the experience before anyone opens a design file, and be the person who can hold a technical conversation with Group IT and a design conversation with the studio in the same afternoon.
What will you own:
Build and ship websites end to end: corporate pages, campaign microsites, landing pages and internal platforms, from wireframe to live.
Work in a modern front-end stack: React, Astro and Next.js, with Vite and Node tooling, Git, and a proper staging to production workflow.
Own and maintain the Group properties running on WordPress: themes, templates, plugins, content updates, migrations, and the unglamorous fixes that keep a site healthy.
Plan the experience before building it: information architecture, user flows, wireframes and prototypes, then explain why it is structured that way.
Design in Figma, Photoshop and Illustrator, ad take a layout from concept to production without needing it drawn for you first.
Keep every property inside the OSK Brand Identity Guidelines, across multiple sub-brands with different visual lanes.
Keep sites secure and current: updates and patching, plugin and script vetting, access control, secure forms, backups and rollback.
Prepare video and motion assets for web use: compression, formats, embedded playback and background loops.
Sit between the Creative Studio and Group IT on hosting, domains and subdomains, SSL, DNS, deployment and access, translating in both directions so nothing stalls in the gap.
Test across real devices and browsers, and fix what breaks before anyone else finds it.
Keep documentation, credentials handling, version control and project files in order, so no part of the estate lives only in one person's head.
Good to have
Headless or git-based CMS implementation: Decap, Sveltia, Sanity, Contentful or similar.
Tailwind CSS or an equivalent utility framework.
Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. Not the job, but there will be weeks when a site needs a hero loop or a trimmed video, and doing it yourself is faster than queuing it.
Web accessibility to WCAG 2.1 AA.
SEO fundamentals, Core Web Vitals and performance budgets.
PHP and MySQL for deeper WordPress customisation.
Personal Data Protection Act awareness as it applies to web forms and data capture.
Experience supporting multiple brands or business units under a group structure.
AI tooling used with judgement rather than novelty, in build, design or content workflows.
Project management tools: ClickUp, Trello, Monday.com. GCC Creative runs on ClickUp.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
Diploma or degree in web design and development, multimedia, interactive design, computer science, information technology or a related field.
A portfolio of live websites, with URLs. For each one, state what you designed, what you built and what you inherited.
Minimum three years in web design and front-end development. Four to six years is the comfortable range for this role.
Production command of HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with React and modern build tooling including Vite and Node.
Working command of at least one modern site framework, Astro or Next.js: component architecture, routing, static or hybrid rendering, and deployment.
WordPress competence at maintenance and delivery level: themes, templates, page builders, plugins, migrations and troubleshooting. Existing Group properties run on it, and they become yours.
Git, and a working understanding of staging to production deployment.
UI and UX planning you can defend out loud: flows, wireframes, prototypes, and the reasoning behind them.
Figma, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator at production standard.
A real eye for typography, hierarchy, spacing and alignment. A developer who cannot see spacing will struggle here.
Security as a habit rather than a checklist: patching and update discipline, plugin and third-party script vetting, HTTPS and mixed content, role-based access, credential handling, secure form and data capture, backups and rollback, and awareness of common front-end vulnerabilities.
The discipline to design inside someone else's brand guidelines instead of your own style.
The ability to work alone on an owned property and inside a creative team on a shared one.
Written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia, and the ability to explain a technical constraint to a non-technical stakeholder without condescension.
