Web Developer
About The Role
As a Backend Developer in our Software Engineering department, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining secure, scalable server-side applications and APIs. This salaried, full-time position is ideal for a developer with approximately 5 years of experience and strong API and data expertise, who is comfortable working across the back-end stack to deliver high-quality, performant, and reliable services. You will collaborate closely with front-end engineers, product managers, and firmware/device engineers to implement robust, scalable solutions using Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS, and PostgreSQL. This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys transforming complex requirements into elegant, maintainable code while following best practices in software development.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain responsive web interfaces using Vue.js (Vue 3 preferred), HTML, Java, PHP, JSP, ASP.Net, Python, AJAX.
- Design and maintain relational data models with PostgreSQL and Type ORM, including schema migrations, query optimization, and data integrity.
- Build and optimize reusable modules, services, guards, and middleware to support a scalable back-end architecture.
- Integrate back-end applications with third-party systems and APIs (e.g., ERP and CRM platforms such as NetSuite and Salesforce), handling asynchronous requests, scheduled jobs, and data synchronization.
- Develop and maintain IoT messaging between connected medical devices and the cloud using MQTT and AWS IoT, including device provisioning, certificates, and message processing.
- Implement secure authentication and authorization (JWT, role-based access control, multi-factor authentication) and follow security best practices across all services.
- Build and maintain serverless and cloud infrastructure on AWS (Lambda, IoT Core, SES, and related services) using tools such as the Serverless Framework.
- Optimize application performance, including response times, database efficiency, and overall service reliability.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve back-end issues, including data, integration, and production incidents.
- Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and adhere to coding standards and best practices.
- Work closely with front-end engineers to define and refine API contracts, data models, and integration patterns.
- Write and maintain automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests (e.g., Jest, Supertest, Playwright).
- Contribute to back-end build, CI/CD, and deployment processes using modern tooling (e.g., package managers, Docker, and cloud deployment pipelines).
- Continuously stay up to date with emerging back-end technologies, frameworks, and best practices, and apply them where appropriate.
- Collaborate with product and stakeholder teams to estimate effort, plan sprints, and deliver features on schedule.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for APIs, services, and back-end workflows.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field required.
- Approximately 5+ years of professional experience as a Web Developer or Front-End Engineer.
- Strong experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, including schema design, migrations, ORMs (TypeORM preferred), and SQL performance tuning.
- Solid understanding of RESTful API design, authentication/authorization, and asynchronous processing.
- Experience with AWS cloud services (Lambda, IoT Core, SES, or similar) and serverless architectures.
- Experience with message-based or IoT communication (MQTT or similar) is a strong plus.
- Experience integrating with third-party APIs and enterprise systems (ERP/CRM such as NetSuite or Salesforce) is a plus.
- Experience with version control systems, particularly Git, and collaborative development workflows (branching, pull requests, code reviews).
- Familiarity with performance optimization, logging, and monitoring tools for diagnosing back-end bottlenecks.
- Experience with automated testing and writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following industry best practices.
- Familiarity with security and data-privacy practices for regulated environments (e.g., medical devices, HIPAA) is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to debug complex back-end issues across environments.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in cross-functional agile teams.
- Proficiency in English, both written and verbal
