Web Developer (MERN Stack)
Summary
Build full-stack production web apps on the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js) and design the AI layer behind them at KnowledgeCity: Claude API integrations, tool-using agents, and MCP workflows. You own features end to end — data model, APIs, React UI, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
We are hiring a Web Developer who builds production web applications on the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js) and is equally comfortable building with Claude. You will ship customer-facing and internal web products, and you will design and integrate the AI layer behind them: Claude API calls, tool-using agents, MCP integrations, and multi-step automated workflows with human-in-the-loop checkpoints where the stakes require them. This is a hands-on engineering role. You will own features end to end, from data model and API design through React UI, AI integration, testing, deployment, and monitoring. You are expected to use AI coding tools such as Claude Code as a normal part of your workflow, and to review and test what they produce with the same rigour you would apply to any code.
Web development (MERN)
• Design, build, and maintain full-stack features using MongoDB, Express, React, and Node.js.
• Design REST APIs and data models; write efficient MongoDB queries, indexes, and aggregation pipelines.
• Build responsive, accessible React interfaces with clean state management and reusable components.
• Implement authentication, authorization, input validation, and secure handling of secrets and user data.
• Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests; participate in code review; maintain CI/CD pipelines.
• Deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot services in production; own performance and reliability of what you ship.
Claude and agentic systems
• Integrate the Claude API (Messages API) into product features: prompt design, streaming responses, structured outputs, tool use, and prompt caching to control cost and latency.
• Build agentic workflows: tool-calling loops, orchestrator/sub-agent patterns, retries and fallbacks, and human-in-the-loop approval gates before high-impact actions such as bulk writes or outbound communications.
• Build and consume MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers to connect Claude to internal systems and third-party tools (for example CRM, HR, LMS, Slack, or databases).
• Decide what belongs in deterministic code versus what belongs in the LLM step, and keep bulk or repetitive operations in code rather than in the model loop.
• Add observability to AI features: structured logging of inputs, outputs, latency, token usage, and errors; cost tracking; basic evaluation sets to catch regressions when prompts or models change.
• Use Claude Code or comparable AI coding agents day to day to accelerate delivery, while keeping ownership of correctness, security, and code quality.
Collaboration
• Work with the AI, product, content, and design teams to turn requirements into shippable features.
• Document systems, prompts, tool schemas, and operational runbooks so others can maintain them.
• Contribute to engineering standards for AI-assisted development and agent safety.
What we are looking for
• 4+ years of professional web development experience, with production work on the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js).
• Strong JavaScript; TypeScript proficiency strongly preferred.
• Solid understanding of REST API design, HTTP, authentication (for example JWT or OAuth), and web security fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with MongoDB schema design, indexing, and aggregation.
• Practical experience building with the Claude API or Anthropic SDK, including at least tool use (function calling) and streaming. Familiarity with structured outputs and prompt caching is a plus.
