Welding Inspector
Summary
Inspect welds and train operators to ensure code compliance, documenting quality using MS Office and welding machinery knowledge.
General Description/ Objective
Responsible for delivering welding inspections and for ensuring the proper training and supervision of welding operators.
Roles and Tasks
- Train new hired welding operators and ensure they reach required qualification
- Generate annual welding operators training plan and train operators according to the plan
- Give information about welding methods before the start of production
- Control conformity of welding wire used for welding operations
- Record welding parameters for every product and give information about those parameters to workers
- Record welding fail rates of welders and notifying the Welding Responsible about this rates
- Anticipate, detect and analyze possible welding fails in the different production stages and notify the Welding Responsible for taking required precautions, giving training when needed
- Follow Health & Safety Regulations, and make sure all welding operators do the same
- Perform internal and external inspections to determine if a weldment meets the acceptance criteria of a specific code, standard or document.
- Have the ability to properly interpret Codes and Specifications in accordance with the drawing requirements.
- Use a computer to compile and submit data of acceptance or rejection of weld quality, as well as for inter-office communications.
- Pay attention to detail and be capable of recommending and approving repairs as well as performing visual inspection of completed work.
- Ability to complete Welding Procedures and Welder Qualification documentation.

Profile/ Professional Competencies/ Job Requirements
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma
Specific Knowledge
- Knowledge of Submerged Arc, GMAW, FCAW, SMAW welding processes.
- Proven knowledge of welding standards and experience giving trainings to workers
- Proven ability in supervising the compliance to Codes, Standards and Procedures
Languages
- Fluent English
IT/ Technical Knowledge
- MS Office-Medium Level
Minimum Experience Required
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience operating welding machinery SAW MIG MAG.
Internal Candidates and/or Employees from other GRI factories, are considered competent for this job if they have at least 5 years of experience on similar processes/positions.
Preferable Requirements
- Bilingual (English Spanish)
- Welding Inspector/Supervisor experience is an asset.
