WINCH / CRANE MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

Open 28d

Key Responsibilities

  • Mechanical Design & 3D Modeling:

    • Design mechanical components, drum structures, level-wind spooling mechanisms, gearboxes, shafts, drive lines, and skid frames using 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, Inventor, or Creo).

    • Calculate drum holding capacities, wire rope layering behavior, dynamic torque requirements, and line pull forces.

  • Structural & FEA Stress Analysis:

    • Perform analytical hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to ensure structural integrity and fatigue resistance under extreme dynamic loads.

    • Optimize weight-to-strength ratios for marine/offshore environments.

  • System Integration:

    • Select and integrate drive trains, planetary gearboxes, hydraulic motors/power units (HPUs), electric drives, brake systems, slip rings, and sensor interfaces.

    • Work alongside electrical and hydraulic controls engineers to ensure seamless electro-hydraulic/electric winch control.

  • Class Certification & Compliance:

    • Ensure all engineering designs conform to marine class rules (DNV, ABS, BV, API 2C, ISO).

    • Prepare structural design reports, engineering dossiers, and calculation books for third-party class approvals.

  • Manufacturing & Technical Documentation:

    • Prepare detailed production assembly drawings, piece-part manufacturing drawings, weld symbols, machining tolerances, and comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOMs).

    • Support shop floor fabrication, assembly, machining, and material selection (corrosion-resistant coatings, structural steel grades, high-strength alloy steels).

  • Testing & Field Commissioning:

    • Draft Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) plans, proof load testing procedures, and line pull/brake test specifications.

    • Provide technical assistance during shop assembly, FAT execution, troubleshooting, and field commissioning.
