Wine Sommelier - Assistant Manager - Fairmont Agra
- Curate, manage, and maintain the hotel's wine collection and beverage inventory, ensuring quality and variety aligned with guest preferences and culinary offerings
- Provide expert wine recommendations and food and wine pairings to guests, enhancing their dining experience
- Train, mentor, and supervise sommelier and service staff on wine knowledge, service techniques, and product information
- Develop and update wine lists and beverage programmes in collaboration with the executive chef and restaurant management
- Conduct wine tastings, educational seminars, and special beverage events for guests and staff
- Manage wine procurement, negotiate with vendors, and maintain cost controls to optimise profitability
- Ensure compliance with all alcohol service regulations, licensing requirements, and responsible service practices
- Oversee cellar management, including proper storage conditions, temperature control, and inventory rotation
- Monitor beverage sales performance, analyse trends, and implement strategies to increase revenue
- Maintain detailed records of inventory, orders, wine selections, and supplier information
- Handle guest inquiries, complaints, and special requests related to beverages with professionalism and discretion
- Collaborate with front-of-house and back-of-house teams to ensure seamless beverage service delivery
- Assist in menu development and contribute to overall dining programme strategy
- Develop and nurture relationships with wine producers, distributors, and suppliers to source premium selections and secure competitive pricing
- Prepare and present beverage budget forecasts, financial reports, and performance metrics to senior management
- Conduct regular staff performance evaluations, identify training needs, and support professional development opportunities within the beverage department
- Certified Sommelier credential or equivalent internationally recognized wine certification
- 5+ years of professional sommelier or wine service experience in luxury hospitality environments
- Proven expertise in wine inventory management, cellar operations, and storage protocols
- Comprehensive knowledge of wine regions, varietals, production methods, and food pairing principles
- Demonstrated experience in training, mentoring, and supervising sommelier and service staff
- Proficiency with beverage management systems, inventory software, and point-of-sale (POS) platforms
- In-depth knowledge of alcohol service regulations, licensing requirements, and responsible service practices
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to educate and engage guests
- Strong analytical and financial acumen with proven ability to manage budgets and optimize costs
- Exceptional organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail in record-keeping and documentation
- Advanced Sommelier certification or Master Sommelier level training and experience
- Background in fine dining, Michelin-starred restaurants, or luxury hotel establishments
- Broad knowledge of spirits, craft cocktails, and premium non-alcoholic beverages
