Wireless Network Engineer

Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Wireless Network Engineer to support the design, deployment, and optimization of Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) infrastructure. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with outdoor wireless systems, mesh networking, and last-mile connectivity in challenging environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement WISP network architecture (PtP, PtMP, and mesh topologies).
  • Conduct site surveys, RF planning, and link budgeting for optimal coverage and performance.
  • Install, align, and configure wireless equipment (antennas, radios, towers, and CPEs).
  • Deploy and manage network infrastructure using platforms such as Ubiquiti (airMAX/UniFi), MikroTik, or similar.
  • Configure and maintain routers and firmware (OpenWrt, RouterOS, or vendor OS).
  • Optimize network performance (throughput, latency, interference mitigation).
  • Implement network monitoring, logging, and alerting systems.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity, interference, and hardware issues in the field.
  • Ensure network security best practices (firewalls, VPNs, segmentation).
  • Document network designs, configurations, and standard operating procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience in WISP or outdoor wireless network deployments.
  • Strong understanding of RF fundamentals, spectrum usage, and interference management.
  • Experience with PtP and PtMP wireless technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with OpenWrt, MikroTik, Ubiquiti, or similar platforms.
  • Solid networking knowledge (TCP/IP, routing, VLANs, NAT, DHCP).
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with mesh networking and community network deployments.
  • Familiarity with GL.iNet devices and custom firmware configurations.
  • Knowledge of network security practices (VPNs, secure device provisioning).
  • Experience in rural connectivity or humanitarian tech projects.
  • Scripting or automation skills (Bash, Python).
  • Certifications (e.g., CWNA, MikroTik, Ubiquiti, or similar).

Tools & Technologies
