WOOD WORKER (BLOCKER AND BRACER)

The primary purpose of this position is to plan, construct, and repair containers and material handling items from wood or wood substitute materials; pack, preserve, and crate items for shipment and/or storage; brace and block items for shipment, and operate fork lifts to facilitate loading and unloading.

- Makes and repairs a wide range of standardized supply, shipping, and storage containers such as boxes, crates, pallets, dividers, and storage bins of various sizes and shapes from wood and wood substitute materials. - Secures hazardous and/or non-hazardous cargo inside or upon conveyances that have regular and rectangular shapes, and unobstructed cargo areas such as box cars, gondolas, flat cars, vans, and/or trucks. - Performs a wide variety of standard and specialized preservation and packing work. Uses various protective/cushioning and bracing techniques for custom packing of a variety of items including hazardous materials to ensure safe and damage free movement. - Operates electric, LPG, or diesel powered fork lift trucks capable of lifting loads weighing less than 10,000 pounds and as high as 168 inches to facilitate loading and unloading duties. - Uses and maintains various types of hand and/or power tools, such as nail and staple guns; hand, radial, and circular saws; hammers, joiners, and squares, etc. Performs duties in a safe manner, utilizing safety practices and procedures, and complying with established safety rules and regulations.
