Responsible for planning, constructing, and repairing a wide variety of shipping and storage containers.
Checks complex items to be boxed or crated against shipping documents or invoices to ensure correct identification, quantity, and condition.
Notes weight, shape, and support requirements; considers destination, transportation mode, and handling to determine the appropriate box, skid, or crate.
Measures, cuts, and manufactures shipping containers requiring critical fitted blocking, bracing, cradles, yokes, collars, or other supports necessary for proper support and protection.
Packs materials and equipment in standard or non-standard boxes or crates using proper wrappings, liners, cradles, chocks, yokes, collars, cushioning, or other protective devices in accordance with proper packing procedures.
Prepares packing lists, completes shipping documents, and applies stencils or labels identifying shipping and handling instructions.
Cuts precision blocking and bracing materials and places them in rail cars and vans to protect materials being shipped.
