WordPress Developer (AI First)
Summary
Build and maintain high-performance WordPress sites using Elementor, custom widgets, and AI coding agents like Claude Code; integrate APIs and optimize for speed and accessibility.
- Build, customize, and maintain WordPress sites with a strong emphasis on performance, accessibility, and maintainability
- Design and deliver pages and templates in Elementor and Elementor Pro: reusable templates, global styles, theme builder layouts
- Develop custom Elementor widgets, dynamic content, and extensions when off-the-shelf capabilities fall short
- Use Claude Code (or comparable AI coding agents) daily to scaffold, refactor, debug, and document code
- Manage WordPress as code: version-controlled themes and plugins, local-to-production parity, scripted deployments
- Use Composer, WP-CLI, and Git-based workflows to manage plugins, dependencies, and configuration
- Build custom themes and child themes, custom post types, taxonomies, and ACF-driven content models
- Integrate WordPress with third-party services, REST APIs, forms, and marketing/automation tooling
- Work across DEV / STAGE / PROD environments and support clean, reliable releases
- Collaborate closely with another developer on a shared codebase and environments, coordinating changes and releases
- Write clear, maintainable code and contribute to technical documentation
- 2–5 years of professional WordPress development experience
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools (Claude Code or a comparable coding agent) as an active part of your development process — this is core to how we work, not a nice-to-have
- Strong, hands-on experience with Elementor and Elementor Pro, including theme builder and template systems
- Proven experience developing WordPress as code: Git-based workflows, version-controlled themes/plugins, environment-aware deployments (not just editing in WP admin)
- Solid PHP skills, plus working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Experience with WP-CLI, Composer, and dependency management
- Familiarity with custom post types, taxonomies, and ACF (or similar) for structured content
- An eye for performance (caching, image optimization, Core Web Vitals) and accessibility
- Experience working alongside other developers on shared WordPress projects — branching, code reviews, and coordinating changes without stepping on each other's work
- Comfortable working in a client-facing or consulting environment
