WordPress Website Developer

Role & responsibilities

• Build, update and maintain all group WordPress websites
• Apply core, theme and plugin updates, testing on a staging copy first
• Keep sites secure: firewall, two-factor login, malware scans, SSL
• Run daily backups and test a restore regularly
• Speed up the sites (caching, image compression) and monitor uptime
• Handle SEO basics, Google Analytics and Search Console
• Connect website forms to company email so enquiries are not lost
• Keep sites POPIA-compliant (privacy policy, cookie notice)
• Document each site: hosting, plugins, logins, renewal dates

Preferred candidate profile

• 2+ years of professional WordPress experience, with live sites to show
• PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and MySQL
• Custom themes and plugins, plus Elementor or the block editor
• Git, staging and production setups, cPanel or Linux hosting, DNS and Cloudflare
• Basic web security knowledge

Nice to have

• Diploma or degree in IT
• Experience with Microsoft 365 email, SPF, DKIM and DMARC
• Corporate or industrial website experience
• Basic design skills (Figma, Canva)

Terms

• Reports to the Group IT Head of Department
