The Opportunity:
ApplyBoard is seeking a Workday HCM & Payroll Functional Analyst to support one of our school partners in Florida. This role serves as the functional owner of HCM and Payroll business processes end to end.
You will translate how People and Payroll teams need to operate into scalable, well-governed Workday configurations. You will ensure data accuracy, maintain audit-ready processes, and continuously improve how we manage the full hire-to-retire and pay lifecycle. You are the trusted partner who ensures processes not only work, but continue to work through change and growth.
What You’ll Be Doing Every Day:
Core HCM and position management
(Support life-cycle HCM business processes) (recruiting, onboarding, compensation, benefits, payroll,) Hire-to-retire: job requisition, hire, onboarding, change job, transfers, leaves, termination, and offboarding
Organization, supervisory, and position management, including headcount governance and position restrictions
Business Process Framework: approval routing, condition rules, validation rules, and notifications
EIBs, integration of data validation, and data conversion experience
Configure Workday business processes and workflows
Test and deploy system updates and enhancements
Troubleshoot user issues and system errors
Manage security roles and permissions
Coordinate with HR, Payroll, IT, Finance, and vendors
Support Workday's biannual software releases
Recommend process improvements and automation opportunities
Compensation
Merit, bonus, and equity cycles, including grid configuration, eligibility rules, validation logic, and executive readouts
Compensation change processes and the downstream pay impacts they trigger
Absence and benefits
Absence plans, accruals, and time-off business processes
Benefits enrollment, life events, and carrier-facing data accuracy, including ACA reporting and 1094-C and 1095-C support
Payroll
Payroll business processes and processing support, including pay calculation validation and audit
Payroll parallel testing for releases and for any configuration change that touches pay
Coordination of general ledger, tax, and carrier integrations with the integration team
Recruiting, onboarding, and talent (as applicable)
Recruiting and applicant tracking workflow optimization and the onboarding experience
Talent and performance processes such as check-ins, calibration, and development
What You Bring to the Table:
5+ years of hands-on Workday HCM with direct ownership of business process configuration (routing, conditions, validations)
Production Workday Payroll experience, including parallel testing and pay calculation validation
Proven reporting depth across advanced, matrix, and composite reports and calculated fields
Hands-on configuration of Core HCM, position management, compensation, absence, and benefits (role-based security profiles)
Strong stakeholder partnering able to run requirements sessions and turn business needs into governed configuration
Working command of Workday security concepts and the bi-annual release and regression cycle
EIBs, integration data validation, and data conversion experience
Workday Payroll and HCM related certifications
Higher education experience across faculty, staff, adjunct, and student-worker populations and academic-calendar pay cycles
ACA and other HR compliance reporting experience
Exposure to related systems such as ADP, an applicant tracking system, Okta, and ServiceNow
