WVTM Broadcast IT Specialist

WVTM, the NBC affiliate in Birmingham, is looking for an IT Specialist to join our station. The IT Specialist will help oversee station IT operations and work with a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment. This position performs daily maintenance on computers, virtual systems, network infrastructure and printers while providing user support across the station. You will report to the ((manager title)).

Responsibilities

  • Support user needs across all departments, including News, Creative Services, Sales and Administration.
  • Maintain imaging machines, update firmware and manage hardware inventory.
  • Assist the IT Manager with system upgrades and new platform deployments.
  • Provide technical guidance to end users and support mobile devices.
  • Maintain LAN and IT infrastructure, including the installation and support of network hardware and software.
  • Travel occasionally to news bureau, transmitter and translator locations.
  • Analyze and implement corporate data backup, disaster recovery and security procedures.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of managed network switches and network architecture concepts.
  • VMware, Cisco or Microsoft certifications preferred.
  • Prior experience supporting a large user base.
  • Experience in a television broadcast setting preferred.
  • Experience with networked and stand-alone printers and digital copiers.
  • Experience supporting enterprise and web-based applications.
  • Knowledge of VPN, Cisco equipment, TCP/IP, subnets, NAS and LAN management.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer service mindset.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows desktop and server operating systems.
  • Higher education in technology, SBE certification or related military experience will be considered.
