Job Description

The Yard Repair & Maintenance (R&M) Manager is responsible for leading the Yard R&M department at Wolf Creek Feedyard and ensuring the facilities, equipment, vehicles, and infrastructure necessary for daily feedyard operations are maintained safely and effectively.

This position leads a team of approximately 7 employees and oversees preventative maintenance, repairs, improvement projects, equipment maintenance, department safety, employee development, and expense management. The Yard R&M Manager works closely with feedyard management and other departments to prioritize projects and keep the yard operating efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and provide daily direction to approximately 7 Yard R&M employees to meet safety, productivity, and operational goals.
  • Plan and oversee preventative maintenance, repairs, and improvement projects throughout the feedyard, including bunks, pens, fences, water systems, roads, facilities, and other yard infrastructure.
  • Coordinate routine maintenance and repairs for feed trucks, loaders, tractors, and other vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Prioritize daily maintenance needs and allocate employees, equipment, and resources to complete projects efficiently.
  • Identify equipment and facility concerns and take a proactive approach to repairs before they impact feedyard operations.
  • Lead the department's safety program, reinforce safe work practices, and provide training as needed.
  • Manage department expenses and assist in developing and administering operating, repair, labor, energy, and capital budgets.
  • Lead the onboarding, orientation, and training of new Yard R&M employees.
  • Develop employees through ongoing coaching, feedback, and hands-on training.
  • Participate in annual employee performance and wage reviews.
  • Maintain appropriate records related to equipment maintenance, repairs, projects, and department expenses.
  • Work collaboratively with feedyard management and other departments to support overall yard operations.
  • Follow and enforce all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in feedyard operations, agriculture, maintenance, construction, mechanical work, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • High school diploma, GED, trade school education, or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Experience operating, maintaining, or repairing heavy equipment preferred.
  • Welding, fabrication, mechanical, and general repair experience preferred.
  • Ability to lead employees, organize multiple projects, and prioritize maintenance needs in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to work hands-on alongside the team when needed.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

This is a hands-on position in an active feedyard environment. Employees must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, lift, shovel, operate equipment, and perform physical maintenance tasks as needed. The position involves regular outdoor work and exposure to livestock, dust, noise, and changing weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, snow, sleet, and hail.
