JOB TITLE: Youth Development Support Specialist

REPORTS TO: Vice President of Youth Development and/or as assigned

FLSA TYPE: Non-Exempt, Hourly

JOB PURPOSE:

The Youth Development Support Specialist member provides flexible, reliable support across YMCA childcare and youth programs, including Play & Learn, GO Club, Day Camp, and Child Development Center (CDC) settings. This role ensures safe supervision, positive engagement, and continuity of care by filling staffing gaps, supporting ratios, and maintaining program quality when regular staff are unavailable or additional coverage is needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (not a complete list):

• Step into classrooms or program spaces as assigned to maintain coverage and consistency.
• Support age-appropriate activities, routines, and transitions as directed by site leadership.
• Assist with planned curriculum and activities without disrupting established program structure.
• Engage children positively through guidance, encouragement, and relationship-building.
• Adapt quickly to changing schedules, locations, age groups, and program needs.
• Provide continuous, active supervision of children from 6 weeks through 12 years of age, following YMCA supervision standards and staff-to-child ratios.
• Support youth development leadership with basic administrative and clerical tasks.
• Maintain program areas, equipment, and supplies to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
• Follow and consistently enforce YMCA policies and procedures
• Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures regarding the prevention of abuse.
• Report any suspected abuse, neglect, or misconduct immediately to the appropriate supervisory staff.
• Attend mandatory training on abuse prevention, including recognizing signs of abuse, and reporting requirements.
• Other duties as assigned

Required:

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of 6 months of experience working or volunteering with children
• Demonstrated leadership, conflict-resolution, and professional communication skills
• Ability to serve as a positive role model for youth and staff
• Current CPR, First Aid, and Oxygen Certification (will provide upon hire)

Preferred:

• Bilingual - English/Spanish
• Experience in one or more YMCA program areas (Play & Learn, GO Club, Camp, or licensed childcare)
