Subaru Zone Retailer Development Manager (CAL Zone)
SUMMARY
Reports to the Zone Director but also has a dotted line responsibility to the Regional Retailer Development Manager. This is the Zone frontline position to strengthen the retailer body and is the Zone-level champion of individual dealer planning.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fills open points by identifying strong performers with good capital, good facilities that are properly located and experienced management teams and solid processes. In conjunction with the Regional Vice President (RVP) and Zone Director (ZD), selects retailer candidates.
- Upgrades or replaces poor-performing retailers through buy/sells, capital infusion, or upgrade in personnel.
- Consults with retailers to develop facility improvement/development plans with support from Facility Funding Programs.
- With assistance from the Regional Market Development Administrator and/or Zone Operations Specialist, gathers the documents from the retailer candidates that are necessary to obtain Subaru of America (SOA) approval.
- Works with the District teams and Regional Retailer Operations Manager to improve the financial results at loss and low profit/low return retailers. Tracks action items via Planning for Success (PFS) and ensure that the district team is following up on the retailer commitments. Tracks District-level progress against the actions of PFS.
- Ensures adequate paper trail to include PFS sheets and contact reports to document and support a legal action, if needed.
- Launches a new retailer and ensures that the retailer understands Subaru programs, has a launch advertising plan (tracking/reporting should be handled by the Zone Marketing and/or District team), receives the right inventory mix and level to achieve the targeted sales objectives during the first six (6) months, and completes any commitments made to the Subaru franchise.
- Works to ensure that all Zone Retailer Sales & Service Agreements are current and not expired unless for Legal Action
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the ZD in identifying the top five (5) actions in each District to strengthen the retailer body; ensures that they are incorporated into the District PFS reports. Prepares monthly report on the progress of the top Zone actions to the Region.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree required
- At least 10-12 years required
- Strong expertise in the ability to review, interpret, and analyze retailer financial statements and records, including iEXAM and Oracle Business Intelligence (OBI) reports, in order to make appropriate recommendations to retailer and/or management.
- High level of organization and time management skills; very successful at handling multiple priorities.
- Exceptional communication skills; articulate with ability to "think on your feet," expertly present to an audience in person and on paper and effectively listen and recognize the value of others' perception. Initiates open dialogue and candid discussions.
- Strong interpersonal and leaderships skills; respectful, positive, and professional demeanor. Ability to be a team player with excellent negotiation and mediation skills and ability to initiate the exchange of ideas.

- Ability to work with retailers, architects, and contractors to ensure that retailer construction projects (new or retrofit) meet Phase II Signature Facility Image Requirements to include exterior, interior, and signage.
Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a driving record that is acceptable or probationary under the SOA Driving Record Evaluation Criteria Policy. Must be approved as an "Authorized Driver" by Risk Mgmt. to operate company vehicle prior to vehicle operation.
70% Travel Required throughout the zone.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- 4-year college degree (BA, BS) and 8-10 years' experience
COMPENSATION: The recruiting base salary range for this full-time position is $118200 - $165000 / year. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Additionally, this role is bonus-eligible, with a target bonus percentage that provides an opportunity to earn even more based on your performance. (Internal Job Grade: M2)
