Accor S.A. is a French multinational hospitality company that owns, manages, and franchises an extensive portfolio of hotels, resorts, and vacation properties. As the largest hospitality company in Europe and the sixth largest worldwide, Accor has a significant global footprint, operating over 5,500 locations in more than 110 countries. The company's origins trace back to 1967, when Paul Dubrule and Gérard Pélisson founded the Société d'investissement et d'exploitation hôteliers (SIEH) and opened the first Novotel hotel in Lille, France. The Accor group was officially formed in 1983 following a merger with Jacques Borel International. This strategic move led to its introduction on the Paris stock exchange in the same year. Throughout its history, Accor has demonstrated a consistent pattern of growth and strategic acquisition. Key milestones include the acquisition of the Sofitel brand in 1980, the launch of the budget-friendly Formule 1 brand in 1985, and the purchase of Motel 6 in 1990. The company has continually adapted its business model to market dynamics, notably with its 'asset-light' strategy to focus on hotel management and franchising.
