American Public University System

About

The American Public University System (APUS) is dedicated to providing high-quality higher education, particularly to the nation’s military and public service communities. It was founded in 1991 by Marine Corps officer James P. Etter, starting with the establishment of the American Military University (AMU) to meet the educational needs of military members. APUS has grown remarkably over the years and is now recognized as one of the largest online university systems in the United States, offering a wide array of programs that span over 200 degrees and certificates. Our focus on affordability, accessibility, and relevance sets us apart from traditional educational institutions, as we commit to serving the diverse needs of our students through innovative online learning. APUS believes that education is essential for success in today’s competitive job market. With an understanding of the unique challenges faced by many of our students—who are often balancing education with work and family responsibilities—our programs are designed to be flexible and accommodating. We have become leaders in online education and are known for our exceptional faculty, robust student support, and a vibrant community of learners. With over 149,000 graduates around the globe, we take pride in our ability to foster student success. Our continued dedication to advancing high-quality, student-focused education emphasizes our commitment to serving the ever-evolving needs of the workforce.
