About
In the aftermath of World War II, two visionary entrepreneurs recognized the tremendous opportunity in America's growing suburban housing market. Herman Silverman launched Sylvan Pools in 1946 in the Philadelphia area with just $500 in borrowed capital, while Phil Anthony founded Anthony Pools in southern California in 1947. Both men seized upon the postwar building boom, establishing thriving enterprises that would eventually become synonymous with quality pool construction. Over the following decades, both companies navigated complex corporate landscapes, surviving ownership changes, acquisitions, and market shifts. Anthony Pools became part of Anthony Industries, which expanded into sporting goods brands like K2, while Sylvan Pools passed through conglomerates including KDI Corporation. In 1996, General Aquatics acquired both companies and merged them, creating Anthony & Sylvan Pools Corporation as America's largest installer of in-ground residential concrete swimming pools and spas. The company went public in 1999 and today operates across multiple metropolitan markets, having designed, built, renovated, and serviced over 1 million pools. With headquarters now in Warminster, Pennsylvania, and John Owens serving as CEO entering the company's 80th year, Anthony & Sylvan continues its mission of transforming backyard dreams into lasting reality.
