In 1897, a group of animal lovers in London founded what would become one of the UK's most enduring animal welfare charities - originally established as the Our Dumb Friends League. At that time, London's streets were filled with abandoned and mistreated horses, and the founders sought to create an organization that would speak for those who could not speak for themselves. From these humble beginnings on the capital's streets, Blue Cross grew to support animals through the hardships of World War One and World War Two, providing care and refuge during some of Britain's most challenging moments. Today, Blue Cross UK continues its mission to help sick, injured, and homeless pets across the nation. The charity operates four animal hospitals providing affordable veterinary care for families who cannot afford private treatment, while also maintaining rehoming and fostering services that match homeless cats, dogs, horses, and small pets with loving families. Their work extends beyond animal care to supporting the humans who love them - offering pet loss support services, pet food banks for struggling owners, and educational programs that promote responsible pet ownership. With over 125 years of experience, Blue Cross has helped more than 35,000 dogs, cats, horses, and small pets every year, making it a cornerstone of animal welfare in the United Kingdom.
