About
CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation is a global alliance of civil society organisations and activists working to strengthen citizen action and civil society throughout the world. Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa, with offices in New York and Geneva, CIVICUS serves as an influential network connecting organisations at the local, national, regional, and international levels. Our vision is to enable a worldwide community of informed, inspired, committed citizens tackling the challenges facing humanity. We build solidarity among activists across borders and network and resource civil society around the world. Our work spans four key areas: co-creating knowledge through research and analysis, advocating for change to open civic spaces and create systemic change, enabling and resourcing civil society through capacity building and grants, and building networks that amplify collective action. We publish the annual State of Civil Society Report, maintain the CIVICUS Monitor tracking civic freedoms in 196 countries, and run the CIVICUS Lens analysis platform. With members across 175+ countries, we champion the power of civil society to create positive change.
