About
The East Coast Greenway Alliance is a nonprofit organization leading the development of America's most ambitious walking and biking trail. Founded in November 1991, the Alliance is transforming the vision of a 3,000-mile protected route from Maine to Florida into reality. This nationally connected, locally rooted trail system links 15 states and over 450 communities, boosting local economies while helping people move in healthy, sustainable and joyful ways. The East Coast Greenway represents a commitment to public health, environmental sustainability, economic development and civic engagement. Currently, 65% of the route is complete or in advanced development, with 1,100 miles already connecting communities from Maine to Florida. The Alliance partners with communities from early planning through ribbon cuttings, helping secure funding, share trail-building expertise and connect efforts across city, county and state lines. The organization has attracted more than $2 billion in public investment since 1991 and has a sustained track record of turning every dollar donated into $100 in public infrastructure investment. The Greenway provides access to no-cost fitness and exercise, safe spaces for active transportation, and connections to nature even in the busiest of cities.
