While the company was officially established as an independent entity in December 2010, its roots stretch back much further, originating from the opto-electronic foundations laid by three MIT professors who founded EG&G in 1947. For over half a century, EG&G expanded its expertise in light detectors, sensors, and laser technologies. A pivotal moment came in 1999 when EG&G acquired the Analytical Instrumentation division of PerkinElmer, adopting its well-known name and continuing to flourish. The true genesis of the Excelitas we know today occurred when it was spun out of PerkinElmer, backed by the private equity firm Veritas Capital.
