The Financial Ombudsman Service is an independent, Parliament‑established body that resolves disputes between consumers and financial firms, providing free, impartial investigations for over a million complaints annually. It covers a broad spectrum of financial products—including bank accounts, cards, PPI, insurance, credit, loans, mortgages, debt‑collection issues, pensions and investment advice. When a firm is found to have treated a consumer unfairly, the Ombudsman can enforce corrective action through its legal powers, while also offering explanations when complaints are not upheld.
