About

In 2014, Erin Mote recognized a critical gap in American education: innovative learning models and technologies were failing to reach the students who needed them most. Rather than waiting for systemic change to happen slowly through traditional channels, she founded InnovateEDU as a catalyst for rapid, meaningful transformation in how education serves learners across the country. InnovateEDU is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating the opportunity gap by accelerating innovation in standards-aligned, next generation learning models and tools. The organization operates through three interconnected portfolios: Education Technology & Markets, Sector & Capacity Building, and Policy. This multidimensional approach allows InnovateEDU to address systemic challenges comprehensively, bridging gaps in data, policy, practice, and research while centering the needs of educators and students. What began as a Brooklyn-based initiative has grown into a national force for education transformation. The organization is perhaps best known for Project Unicorn, which has become a leading interoperability certification initiative for education technology products, and the Educating All Learners Alliance, a coalition of over 100 partner organizations committed to supporting students with disabilities. InnovateEDU also recently launched the Responsible AI Testbed Infrastructure initiative to explore how artificial intelligence can be safely and effectively integrated into K-12 education.
